About us
The NIAIA is a growing, professional association of IA investigators including those from a variety of public safety and academic agencies—including police, corrections, fire, and EMS—throughout the United States, Canada, and now across the globe internationally. Our association originally formed in 1986 as a state association, changed to a regional association covering the southeast the next year, and became a national entity in 1993. The NIAIA holds an annual training conference that provides instruction specifically geared toward IA investigators. Go to niaia.org/conference to learn more. Our purpose is to develop and establish professional standards of performance and integrity for Internal Affairs investigators; to provide training to bring about professional growth and development; to present a forum for discussion of common problems and current court decisions; to gather and disseminate information regarding improved administrative and technical practices; to assist law enforcement agencies in the founding and continued development of Internal Affairs Investigative units; and to foster law enforcement cooperation and the exchange of information and experience among Internal Affairs investigators. ***We invite you to please follow us here, join the LinkedIn NIAIA Group, and follow us on Facebook! We are not an investigative agency, and cannot investigate citizen complaints. Please direct such matters to your local, state, or federal authorities.

The Night at the LE Museum event on Wednesday was a highlight of the week with over 300 people in attendance. It was a perfect opportunity for networking and taking in all the museum had to offer, all while feasting on Mission Barbecue. That's hard to beat! Special thanks to sponsors IAPro by Versaterm and Daigle Law Group. #niaiaconference

**Election Notice** The NIAIA annual business meeting is scheduled to take place during the conference on August 29. We will hold elections for two Executive Board positions during that meeting: Recruiting Coordinator, which is completely vacant, and Administrative Liaison. Due to an unexpected vacancy at a crucial time, the Executive Board voted to appoint Karen Riggsbee, a former, two-term President, to the Admin Liaison position back in February of 2024. Karen has been acting-Admin Liaison since, but will officially run for the position during the conference as outlined in the Constitution/Bylaws. If you have questions, or are interested in running for a position, please contact VP Craig Snider via email at 0315@murfreesborotn.gov or phone at 629.201.5578. See you in DC!! #niaiaconference
