For generations, pig farmers have been dedicated stewards of the land. In the past 50+ years, they have reduced their environmental impact—using 75% less land, 25% less water, and 7% less energy, all while producing safe, nutritious pork. This #NationalPorkMonth, we celebrate the progress made and the commitment to preserving resources for future generations. Meet Hunter Thomas, our October producer spotlight! As a fourth-generation Nebraska producer and Vice President of Thomas Livestock, Hunter embodies the dedication and hard work that define our industry. He started his journey in 2011, gaining hands-on experience in every area of the farm—from breeding and farrowing to nursery, finishing, feed mill management, maintenance, and office operations—learning the ropes as he went. Hunter actively contributes to his community by serving on various local boards, including the Custer County Foundation. Previously, he was also a participant in the U.S. SHIP Program House of Delegates and served on a local school board committee, reflecting his commitment to the future of agriculture. We are proud to have Hunter as a dedicated advocate for the pork industry. Thank you, Hunter, for your ongoing investment in NPPC and your passion for our mission! For centuries, farming families have worked hard to raise healthy livestock and provide quality food. Today, over 60,000 family-owned hog farms combine generations of expertise with modern practices to produce safe, nutritious pork. This #NationalPorkMonth, we celebrate the innovation that drives sustainable farming and ensures the well-being of animals and communities. NPPC is committed to defending this progress. Congress must address California Proposition 12 in the farm bill to secure the future of family farms and protect innovation for generations to come. Learn more: fixprop12.com. #PorkPriorities
