Last week we joined forces with Franklin Heights PTSA, South-Western Council PTA, Ohio PTA and Meta for a special online safety ‘Screen Smart’ workshop for families at Franklin Heights High School in Columbus, Ohio. The event featured a panel discussion with teens and adults moderated by National PTA Connected Ambassador Mikki Wilson and provided a forum for both teens and parents to feel heard and seen. Parents and teens also learned about the new Instagram Teen Accounts and other efforts and features from Meta to promote safer experiences on their platforms, and they left the event with tips, resources, insights and guidance to help them confidently approach conversations within their families about healthy age-appropriate habits. The workshop was an extension of Meta’s Screen Smart event series and part of National PTA’s PTA Connected initiative. PTA.org/ScreenSmart

To support their student’s overall well-being and give them resources to manage stress and anxiety, Stoney Creek High School PTSA in Rochester, Mich., used their grant from National PTA and Walmart to host a Wellness Fair. They held their fair during lunch in the school’s gym, and focused on three pillars: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body and Healthy Earth. Read about their event: https://bit.ly/3YAJawo. #HowWePTA

This week is designated #SafeSchoolsWeek. Every child deserves to feel safe at school. And no parent should fear for their child’s safety when they leave home for school. When discussing school safety, we know that gun violence prevention is top of mind for most parents, school administrators, educators and students. National PTA and Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund recently launched A Blueprint for Parent Leaders to Take Action on Gun Violence Prevention. The resource outlines concrete steps on how to discuss school safety with decision-makers so we can work together to protect our children and create safer school communities. Visit PTA.org/Blueprint to start the conversation in your school community today. #EnoughisEnough #EndGunViolence #PTATakesAction
