They must address government funding for Fiscal Year 2025 and decide on extending the 2018 Farm Bill, or risk significant disruptions to vital agricultural programs. The future of numerous programs, from the Local Agriculture Market Program to the Conservation Reserve Program, hinges on this decision, with potential impacts on farmers, ranchers, and food security nationwide. • 🗞 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲: 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) applauds Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Zach Ducheanauex for the announcement of a new final rule: Enhancing Access and Delivery for Farm Loans.  “It is clear that the rule, in addition to a suite of actions from the agency in the last three years, aims to address challenges farmers experience by improving loan accessibility and flexibility to keep farmers on the land,” said Billy Hackett, Policy Specialist. “The provisions will act together to make FSA more responsive to the needs of farmers at the beginning of a lending relationship, invest in farmers’ long-term financial health, and reduce instances of default.” USDA is seeking public comments on the final rule, which goes into effect on September 25, 2024. The comment period will end on October 7. Find the full release here: https://lnkd.in/eJscVhJP #sustainableagriculture #foodpolicy #farmpolicy #FarmServiceAgency #FarmLoans

The bill – which provides Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 funding for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – totals $25.9 billion, which is 1.35% – or nearly $400 million – below the FY2024 enacted level. The cuts included in the bill would have significant consequences across the US food and farm system – impacting farmers, ranchers, communities, and eaters from coast to coast.
