#TBT World War II: LT Grant Andreasen led American and Chinese forces against an overwhelming Japanese force by conducting several ambushes, inflicting heavy losses and killing the major general in command. LT Andreasen, a veteran Scout and Raider officer had transferred to the Naval Advisory Group – China and adapted to land warfare in addition to his primary coastal maritime operations. He was a veteran of the European Theater Amphibious Landings with the Navy Cross awarded for actions at Normandy. #AmericasNavy #NavalSpecialWarfare #history

#TBT July 1964: SEAL advisor Lt. Franklin Anderson arrived as a one-man Mobile Training Team to assist in rebuilding the Vietnamese SEAL Lien Doi Nguoi Nhai (LDNN) program which had only 11 members. He commenced a 3-month screening process to select 66 candidates modeled after U.S. Navy UDT course. 33 graduates were selected and were involved in key maritime events that impacted the war effort. #NavySEALs #NavalSpecialWarfare #allies #vietnam #vietnamwar #history

🌟 Today, we honor the legacy of SO1 (SEAL) Art Nicholas, a true hero. Nicholas, a member of the Scouts & Raiders during Operation Torch, played a vital role in shaping amphibious warfare. 🌊 Last summer, Naval Special Warfare’s Basic Training Command paid tribute to Nicholas, naming him an honorary SEAL and presenting his son with Trident during SEAL Qualification Training Class 355 graduation. #MedalofHonor Operation Red Wings: On 6/28/2005, LT Michael Murphy earned the Medal of Honor as the leader of a special reconnaissance patrol. "...When the primary communicator fell mortally wounded, Lieutenant Murphy repeatedly attempted to call for assistance for his beleaguered teammates. Realizing the impossibility of communicating in the extreme terrain, and in the face of almost certain death, he fought his way into open terrain to gain a better position to transmit a call. This deliberate, heroic act deprived him of cover, exposing him to direct enemy fire. Finally achieving contact with his headquarters, Lieutenant Murphy maintained his exposed position while he provided his location and requested immediate support for his team. In his final act of bravery, he continued to engage the enemy until he was mortally wounded, gallantly giving his life for his country and for the cause of freedom..." 19 years ago today, on the evening of June 27th, a four-man special reconnaissance team of SEALs was inserted into the mountains of Afghanistan. The patrol was compromised the following day, leading to a gunfight between the patrol and an enemy militia force. The gunfight resulted in three casualties and one survivor from the mission. A quick reaction force was sent to assist, but the rescue party of 16 - eight SEALs and eight Soldiers from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment “Night Stalkers”- was shot down by enemy fire.
