Last week Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division had the honor of hosting the Honorable Kathleen Hicks, Deputy Secretary of Defense at the Arsenal. The visit highlighted the warfare center's energetics manufacturing capabilities as well as the Research and Development efforts that play a significant role in designing, developing and fielding the munitions that support the warfighter throughout all of the United States Department of Defense. Deputy Secretary Hicks engaged firsthand with the scientists, engineers and technicians who deliver this innovative, cutting-edge technology to the fleet. As a field activity of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and part of the U.S. Navy's Science and Engineering Establishment, NSWC IHD is the Navy’s premier facility for ordnance, energetics and explosive ordnance disposal solutions.

🚢 Spotlight on Innovation: We are driving AI innovation in the fleet! 🚢 During the USS TARAWA Salvage Exercise (SALVEX), an important Navy exercise that simulates controlled ship damage to test and refine new repair techniques, #NIWCPacific's Chief Engineer collaborated with Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division to deploy "ChatIHD," a generative AI chatbot trained on ship-specific data. This game-changing tool gave Sailors instant access to critical information, streamlining repair processes and enhancing readiness. 🤖 🛠 The next evolution? **ChatIT**—an advanced AI tool that will bring the power of Large Language Models (LLMs) directly to the fleet. Designed for the afloat environment, ChatIT will enable warfighters to quickly access ship-specific data and other critical information, revolutionizing operational efficiency. ⚓ #NAVWAR #Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence #DataDriven #SALVEX #FleetReadiness #ChatIT #FutureNavy #NavyReadiness
