  • ICYMI: Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks visited Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren Division in King George County, Virginia, and NSWC Indian Head Division in Charles County, Maryland, Oct. 4 to view Navy research, development, testing and evaluation projects, including counter-Uncrewed Systems technologies (c-UXS) and energetics. Here are two of her Tweets and some photos from that trip! "Today I met with the staff at NSWC Indian Head responsible for delivering a full spectrum of energetics solutions from research and development to test and evaluation. These members of our civilian workforce at NSWC Indian Head are critical to the nation’s munitions industrial base, and working hand-in-hand with private industry to support our nation’s readiness and defense." "Research and innovation at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division on technologies like directed energy and hypersonics will help to counter unmanned threats to our forces. We must continue to innovate at the speed of warfare, and ensure our warfighters have the tools and technology they need to succeed on the modern battlefield." #TheNavy'sTrustedTechnicalExperts #TheNavy'sInnovationEngine

Dr. Thad Michael, a Naval Architect at NSWC Carderock Division, highlights the importance of the unmatched research at the Navy's Large Cavitation Channel (LCC) in Memphis Tennessee. The LCC is one of the few places in the world a controlled cavitation erosion test at near full-scale conditions is possible, giving the Navy a clear edge in developing the next generation of surface ships and submarines. In this video, Dr. Michael explains how this unique facility enables research and testing critical for the fleet and the university collaborations that bring the best and brightest of the Navy researchers and academia together. https://lnkd.in/eXHvCccD Office of Naval Research, The University of Memphis, University of Michigan If you are interested in this kind of work, or a career in Naval Architecture and related fields, check out our careers and internship opportunities! #NavyInnovates #CarderockROCKS #NavalResearch #Carderock

Vice Adm. Robert Gaucher, Commander, U.S. Submarine Forces, challenged #NUWCDivisionNewport employees to continue delivering the capabilities U.S. Navy submariners need to remain the world’s preeminent fighting force, during a visit to the command on Aug. 26. “It was a great visit, overall.” Division Newport Commanding Officer Capt. Chad Hennings said. "It really reinforced the critical work performed by our workforce, as well as what are the key capability needs of the fleet. There were lots of discussions about communications and weapons — UUVs (unmanned undersea vehicles) are an important priority of his — but it was clear, if you tell him about a capability, he expects it to be delivered on time." In addition to his workforce challenge, Gaucher — who was joined on the visit by NAVSEA Warfare Centers (NSWC/NUWC) Headquarters Executive Director Dr. Martin Irvine and Commander Rear Adm. Todd Evans — also briefed the workforce on his goals and vision for the U.S. submarine forces. This included the critical role Division Newport plays in supporting the warfighter, particularly in key areas such as artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing. “It’s important to have relationships with program offices and other organizations. It’s equally, and sometimes more important, to have those relationships with the operational fleet,” Division Newport Technical Director Marie Bussiere said. “Having Admiral Gaucher come here and have those in-depth discussions is critical. I was really proud of our folks when we were talking about some of our efforts. It really showed the depth of the subject matter expertise of our workforce.” Other topics of discussion included, but were not limited to, cyber resilience, tactical oceanography, digital engineering, torpedo capability and performance improvements, payload advancement and the submarine warfare federated tactical system (SWFTS). The day began with tours and discussions of Division Newport’s UUV portfolio before transitioning into how the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) warfare centers support the undersea warfare (USW) enterprise. “He emphasized the importance of making things low-cost and expendable, but also doing so with speed,” Hennings said. “We have to get this technology in our Sailors’ hands. We have to make it safe enough and test it enough to where the fleet can use it, learn from it, and get better with it so that we’re ready to execute. That way we’re not starting from scratch if the flag goes up and we need the Navy to support the globe in an instant. It really reinforced why our workforce does what it does, and what the fleet needs with regard to capability.” #WhatWeDoMatters #underseasuperiority

🚨 In preparation for Hurricane Milton, 26 U.S. Navy MH-60R Seahawks and approximately 200 personnel from Naval Station Mayport and Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida have relocated to Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. This move is being made to protect the aircraft and personnel from the potential impacts of the hurricane, and to ensure they can quickly return to their home base and resume operations once the storm has passed. While at Maxwell, they will continue to maintain their readiness to respond to emergent situations that may arise. #HurricaneMilton #USNavy

Happy (belated) Birthday to us! ⚓🎂🥳 Although we turned 79 years young in September, the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division 79th Anniversary Celebration was held on Oct. 3 where personnel gathered to explore this #NavyLab's impact of the past, as a reminder of our relevancy today. We enjoyed video presentations, tested our knowledge with history trivia, we had commemorative photos taken and enjoyed cupcakes. Some even got into the spirit of the event and dressed in their favorite retro fashion! A good time was had by all and we are looking forward to a grand event for our 80th celebration next year! Thank you to #TeamPCD, past and present, for leaving a legacy of supporting the warfighter. 📸: Eddie Green, Shauna Love-vonKnoblauch, and Jeremy Roman #NAVSEA #OneTeam #DominateTheLittorals
