Updates

  • The sixteenth nuclear professional to be featured in our "25 Years of NAYGN Energizing the Future of Nuclear" series is Abbey Donahue! While working for Framatome, Abbey was participating in a rotational development program where she moved several times to work in different business areas. In Richland, WA, she helped build momentum in membership after they launched their NAYGN chapter, and helped establish a chapter in Columbia, MD, during her time there. Shortly after that, she was elected to the Core as the Professional Development Chair. She was so passionate about the annual PD conference, webinars, and regional workshops. She continued on in the Core serving as VP, President, and Past President.

  • The fifteenth nuclear professional to be featured in our "25 Years of NAYGN Energizing the Future of Nuclear" series is Alice Cunha da Silva! Alice was part of the first cohort of the NAYGN Nucleaders program. When the leadership of the Westinghouse chapter developed that partnership with Dale Carnegie, she worked together with NAYGN for activities on three different COPs (and hopefully for many more), she was in panels, and she continues working through the new IYNC Professional Development program (Leaders 4 Nuclear) that NAYGN is a big supporter and collaborator of. Alice encourages NAYGN members to participate, challenge yourself grabbing opportunities to support the organization, and, more importantly, get to know people. If you have decided to enter the nuclear world as part of your life, your career, and/or mission like her, these people will be in your life, and it is so worth (and fun!) getting to know each of them. Many friendships and new experiences will come from those connections.

  • The fourteenth nuclear professional to be featured in our "25 Years of NAYGN Energizing the Future of Nuclear" series is Emily Young! During her time participating in NAYGN at Duke Energy, she acted as the nuclear corporate site outreach chair for one term and president for the following term. At her current company, TerraPower, she was able to use what she learned during her time as an NAYGN leader to support the development of the inaugural TerraPower NAYGN chapter in 2023. If she could give a current NAYGN member one piece of advice, it would be to put yourself out there. If you are afraid of not being the right candidate for a project or position for whatever reason, she encourages you to take the opportunity to apply or ask to be considered. Worst case you do not get selected, but you can still learn what gaps need to be filled so you can get the position in the future. Best case you will get the job and be able to take your career to the next level!

  • We are thrilled to release our 2024 NAYGN Career Report! Nuclear Energy has a bright future, but we must continue to retain our existing workforce and attract new talent to energize our future. This year's #CareerReport explores various perspectives of what it will take to support the #Nuclear industry and the people who make it work day in and out. Thank you to our dedicated career report team and our hundreds of NAYGN members and allies who provided data to support this initiative. Download the report now at https://lnkd.in/gfWhNSdz

  • The thirteenth nuclear professional to be featured in our "25 Years of NAYGN Energizing the Future of Nuclear" series is Natalie Wood! Natalie was one of the initial members of Entergy’s NAYGN chapters in 2008. She continues to serve on Entergy’s NAYGN Advisory Board, which advises the current organization. Natalie served on the NAYGN Core for three years and was the President from 2016 to 2017. During her NAYGN President year, NAYGN rolled out an initiative called the NAYGN Impact. This effort generated things such as the revitalization of NAYGN social media, the creation of the first NAYGN published book, and dozens of individual activities in each chapter.

  • The Bonn Climate Conference, also known as the 60th Meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB60), brought together countries that are signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It served as a crucial midpoint between the 28th Conference of Parties (COP) in Dubai and COP 29 in Azerbaijan, and its outcomes will set the stage for the next phase of global climate negotiations. NAYGN is an official observer NGO recognized by the UNFCCC and was provided with a pass to attend SB60. This is the first time NAYGN has attended a meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB) conference and Matthew Mairinger (past president) attended on behalf of NAYGN. Matthew established the clean energy committee in NAYGN and has attended COP25/26/27/28, has been part of the COP26 delivery team, has attended (and been a youth delegate at) CEM10/13/14 and was the individual who registered NAYGN as an official observer with the UNFCCC.
