A lifetime learner passionate about education, Deloris has spent over 40 years working in different school all over the country. Even after retiring from a career of teaching and focusing on education, Deloris continues to be an activist in the community!     NC Project LEAD is happy to spotlight one of our communities emerging leaders, Dorian Cromartie! Founder and member of the special education PTA in New Hanover County, Dorian has served his country as an army veteran, he serves his community as leader, and he advocates for NHCS students. He works with the North Carolina Children's Foundation for public school children and helping them get the resources that they need. He also is a part of the Cape Fear Community Land Trust that helps build and place houses in the workforce community!     NC Project LEAD is excited to announce that Sabrina Sells will be a panelist at our Socioeconomic Development Summit on Friday, September 27th.  The Senior Vice President and Market President at North State Bank, Sabrina Sells has spent 16 years leading in the banking industry, 5 years in commercial banking at NewBridge Bank, and an additional 13 years as VP of commercial lending at BB&T.     NC Project LEAD is excited to announce that Victor Galloway will be a panelist at our Socioeconomic Development Summit on Friday, September 27th.  Mr. Galloway serves as the Community Affairs Specialist for North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Virginia and West Virginia for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In his current role he assist financial institution in developing strategies that are responsive to the credit, service and investment needs of their communities by: fostering initiatives that create positive banking relationships between consumers and financial institutions and move unbanked and underserved consumers into mainstream banking relationship; promoting community development partnerships and access to affordable credit and capital in historically underserved markets. Mr. Galloway has several years of executive leadership experience in the banking, commercial and residential lending and consumer financial services with expertise in working across multiple business channels, public institutions and government agencies. He is the former Director of the National Institute of Minority Economic Development where he had leadership and oversight responsibility for the Center of Research & Policy, The Minority Executive Leadership Institute, Minority Business Development Agency and US DOT Small Business Transportation Center Mid-Atlantic Region. Also in his role, Mr. Galloway advised corporate executives, academic leaders, senior White House staffers, congressional members and government agencies issues impacting minorities, women and veteran ability to access affordable capital and credit. In addition, Mr. Galloway served as the Segment Market Leader for Community Banks for Genworth Financial /GE a leading insurance holding company, severing the lifestyle protection, retirement income, investment and mortgage insurance.     NC Project LEAD is excited to announce that Dr. Cheryl Walker-McGill MD, MBA, MD, FAAAI, FACPE will be a panelist at our Socioeconomic Development Summit on Friday, September 27th.  Earning her MD from Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Walker-McGill got her start as a private practice allergist in the greater Chicago area. In her 13 years there, she worked with children and adults that dealt with asthma, allergies, and other allergic diseases. From there Dr. Walker-McGill spent 4 years in 2000 working for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality studying the impact of managed care contracting on physician clinical decision making. In 2007 Dr. Walker-McGill was hired as an Asthma Clinic Physician at Myers Park Asthma Clinic in Charlotte, NC where she would spend the next 4 years serving the underserved patient population. She would then serve as Medical Director of occupational health and safety for Daimler Trucks in Gastonia, NC; where she would spend another 4 years helping with on-the-job health, wellness, and safety. She would continue her work as Medical Director for Absolute Total Care in August of 2013 until 2017 where Dr. Walker-McGill would join the Federation of state Medical Boards board of directors. From 2019- 2021, she would serve the board as a chair member elect and then full chair member. Dr. Walker-McGill also has 6.5 years of experience at Centene Corportation and a full 21 years and 9 months as Physician Consultant and Allergist-Immunologist in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.   You do not want to miss the opportunity hear Dr. Walker-McGill speak at our Summit event!     NC Project LEAD is excited to announce that Dean Maria Madison will be a panelist at our Socioeconomic Development Summit on Friday, September 27th.  Maria Madison is the Dean of equity, inclusion, and diversity, as well as the director of the Institute of Economic and Racial Equity at Brandeis University. Maria Madison originally joined Brandeis in 2017 as Heller’s first associate dean for equity, inclusion and diversity, a new leadership position created in response to student-led activism during Ford Hall 2015. As associate dean, Madison developed and implemented a targeted, evidence-based approach to improving DEI for all members of the Heller community, and forged innovative and effective partnerships across the school and the university as well as with policymakers and various organizations. In August 2020, Madison became director of Heller’s Institute for Economic and Racial Equity (formerly the Institute on Assets and Social Policy). Under her leadership, the institute adopted a new name, expanded its team and deepened its focus on policy-driven racial disparities. In December 2021, IERE secured a landmark $1 million gift from the Kapor Center to support a new initiative on racial justice and tech policy. As in her DEI work, this new initiative is designed to be cross-cutting, incorporating participation from research, the academy, and students at the graduate and undergraduate level.     NC Project LEAD is happy to announce that Irving L. Joyner JD will be a panelist at our 2024 Socioeconomic Development Summit on September 27th.  Irving L. Joyner has worked as a Professor at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law since 1982. From 1984 to 1992, Joyner served as the Associate Dean of NCCU School of Law. He regularly teaches courses in Criminal Law; Criminal Procedure; Civil Rights and Race and the Law. As a member of the faculty, Professor Joyner serves on a number of Law School and University committees. Professor Joyner has written three editions of his book, Criminal Procedure in North Carolina which is published by LexisNexis Publishing Company. He regularly prepares annual supplements to that publication. The first edition was published in 1989, the second in 1999 and the third was published in 2006. Additionally, Professor Joyner has written a number of articles and manuscripts for continuing legal education programs. He speaks and lectures regularly at legal education, civil rights, political empowerment and educational advancement programs. Professor Joyner provides legal counsel to several political, religious and community organizations and to needy individuals in civil rights and criminal appeals cases. He has served on several State study commissions and agencies and in leadership roles with a variety of community groups and organizations.  In 2004, Professor Joyner was honored as the Lawyer of the Year by the George H. White Bar Association, an organization of African-American Lawyers in Durham County and is a past recipient of the Lawyer of the Year Award by the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers. In 2006, he was honored by NCCU Law School students as Professor of the Year. Over the years, he has received a number of honors and awards for his work as a Professor, a Civil Rights and criminal law litigator and community and political activist.
