  • William Halligan, a graduate of #NCStateWilson, now applies his expertise as a Flyknit Engineer at Nike. Halligan honed his expertise in textiles and sustainability while working as a graduate research assistant at The Nonwovens Institute and a lab assistant in the Wilson College’s Springs Weaving Lab. His research and lab work at NC State, with a focus on sustainability, played a key role in shaping his innovative approach to footwear design, including projects like the Pegasus Turbo Next Nature. While at the Wilson College, he learned about in-depth fabric formation, from selecting chemicals and raw materials to creating yarns and fabrics. He also learned about fabric characterization, creating design of experiments, and project management. • 125 years of the Wilson College of Textiles! 🎉 We celebrated our big anniversary with an event featuring craft stations, a photo booth, Howling Cow and more. Our favorite part was an immersive experience highlighting our 125 years of history. Looking back, we are incredibly proud of all we’ve achieved, the students who have graduated and all the textile research and innovation we’ve accomplished over the years. Thank you to those who celebrated with us, we can’t wait to see what the next 125 years look like!

  • Alexis De Castro grew personally and professionally this summer with Belk. 🩵 Alexis De Castro (FTM-FDPM ‘27) was selected alongside 11 other talented students from across the country to participate in Belk’s Freshman Diversity Program! Thanks to the program she acquired skills in the areas of retail, merchandising, buying/planning and e-commerce. The experience also offered the chance to attend panels, workshops and a networking event with current Belk employees. De Castro’s favorite experience during the program was participating in a visual merchandising activity where she created an in-store presentation strategy to display in Belk stores!

As my internship with the R&D team at Elevate Textiles comes to a close, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible experience I’ve had this summer. I want to start by thanking the entire team at Elevate for providing such a welcoming and supportive environment, as well as Bill Diianni and Brent Smith on the R&D team at the Burlington Finishing Plant, where I was based. During my time at Elevate, I had the opportunity to dive deep into flame retardant (FR) technology and contribute to real-world projects in the Fire Service and Contract Fabric industries. I primarily worked with FR finishes and had the chance to be highly hands-on—spending time in the lab refining formulations, preparing samples, and operating testing equipment. I’m also thankful for the opportunity to travel and visit the manufacturing plants in North Carolina under Elevate Textiles, as well as the Cone Denim office in Greensboro, where we also got to enjoy a Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball game! I’m excited to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained toward my future endeavors in the textile industry, as well as throughout my final year at NC State Wilson College of Textiles. This summer has reaffirmed my passion for creating practical solutions in this field, and I can't wait to see where this path takes me.

  • Wilson College student Dylon Dixon dives into experiences beyond the classroom. 🌊 Study abroad was the perfect opportunity for Dixon to explore his interests in a manor that the regular classroom couldn’t offer. While abroad, Dixon had a positive impact on the world by participating in reef restoration while planting coral. If you’ve studied abroad, we’d love to hear your story, fill out our study abroad form at the link below. http://ncst.at/Vw7150ToyBO

Last month I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Seoul, South Korea and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, thanks to the support of Hansae Fashion Worldwide. The week was defined by cross-cultural collaboration and timely discussions about the future of technological innovation, environmental sustainability, and supply chain dynamics in the global apparel manufacturing industry. Thank you to all the partners at Hansae Fashion Worldwide and the NC State Wilson College of Textiles who made the tour possible: Dr. Andre West, Jason Lee, Hannah Lee, David Min, and many others. I’m grateful to have participated in this inaugural trip, and look forward to seeing the partnership grow in the future! If you're interested, read more through the link below.
