STEM East Industry in Schools 2024: Building Our Future Workforce in Eastern NC! 💡 STEM East, an initiative by NC East Alliance, is focused on bridging education and workforce development across eastern North Carolina. This year, the Industry Cluster Institutes (Smart Agriculture, Healthcare, Aviation, Green Energy, Blue Economy, and BioPharma) brought together 250+ educators from 25 school districts to explore hands-on learning with nine local community colleges, all to inspire future career paths for students right here at home. Teachers engaged in industry tours and workshops to deepen their understanding of local career opportunities for their students, from high-tech agriculture to healthcare and aviation. By bringing together educators, regional industries, and community colleges, STEM East is ensuring that students in Eastern NC have accessible pathways to fulfilling careers, creating a brighter future for our region. We had a great day touring The Volt Center at Craven Community College with STEM East and myFutureNC. The Volt Center is a workforce development training center that offer a variety of programs including welding, HVAC, diesel systems technology, plumbing, and more. Today, STEM East is hosting member community colleges for a National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) workshop. The NSF ATE grant program supports partnerships between two-year institutions of higher education, other academic institutions, industry and other entities to improve the education of technicians in science and engineering. Currently there are only 2 of the 16 community colleges in the NC East region that have received recent ATE awards. Thank you to Dr. Charlene Dukes, Dr. Elizabeth Hawthorne, and Pamela Silvers for providing an excellent introduction to NSF ATE Funding and Mentoring Opportunities!

Congratulations to Wayne County Development Alliance and the NC Global TransPark Economic Development Region for the announcement of Alianza Team®! Alianza plans to invest $16.4 million and create 16 new jobs in eastern NC!
