  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with October 13th observed as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and October 18th as Mammography Day. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, no matter their race or ethnicity. Though not as prevalent, men are also affected by the disease, with less than 1% of all breast cancer cases occurring in men. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers full-service oncology treatment that includes imaging, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and other advanced state of the art treatments as needed, either on site, or referred into the community. VA patients are eligible for enrollment into clinical trials. NCIRE thanks those in the Research Community who work tirelessly to treat and investigate Breast Cancer; and encourages you to get your yearly mammogram.
