Graduate Student Issues Committee is a dedicated committee within NCME with the primary mandate of serving the interests of graduate student members within the organization and enhancing their experience during the annual Conference. The GSIC is constituted by a well-structured assembly comprising a Chair, a Co-Chair, a Board Liaison, student members, faculty members, and an open-ended pool of volunteer students. This collective assembles monthly. Our primary objective is to elevate the prominence of GSIC within the NCME framework, aligning our efforts with the overarching mission of the organization.

Today, we are pleased to feature four more excellent training sessions that will take place at #NCME2025! Check out the following descriptions and the four attached photos for details. 1. “Positionality in Action: Developing Tools to Recognize Bias Across Settings” Authors: Catherina Villafuerte, Nicolas Mireles This training session will provide actionable strategies for developing well-supported positional statements that critically reflect potential biases. 2. “Funding Opportunities in Measurement from Institute of Education Sciences” (CANCELLED) Author: Charles Laurin This training session will describe research and research training grant programs from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) within the US Department of Education. 3. “Harder than Rocket Science? Explaining Assessment to Everyday Audiences” Authors: Karoline Jarr, PhD, Ashleigh Crabtree This training session will give participants written and visual communication tools to ignite action and benefit society. 4. “Modeling Item-Level Heterogeneous Treatment Effects: A Tutorial in R” Author: Josh Gilbert This training session will review the logic behind IL-HTE models and learn how to estimate them in R using real data from randomized controlled trials in education research. That is how important "The Case for State Testing" is given the current political context. It is pretty short and packed full of important considerations. Please read and pass along to others!
