We have been blessed this summer to enjoy fellowship with a number of visiting groups. We have had visits from three youth groups–from Indianapolis, IN, Burwick, PA and a visit from the Antiochian Village Arch Week Group. Their labors tremendously supported the organization in the day to day work and in supporting our brothers and sisters in need.

Trauma Informed Community Development - helping people sustain opportunities and realize their potential.
About us
Our Mission Rooted in the Gospel and teachings of the Orthodox Church, inspired by the Civil Rights Movement (American 1950s-1960s), the mission of the Neighborhood Resilience Project is to support the transformation of neighborhoods from Trauma Affected Communities to Resilient Healing and Healthy Communities through Trauma Informed Community Development. As informed by the lived experience of trauma, both personal and collective, Trauma Informed Community Development is a framework that establishes and promotes resilient healing and healthy communities so that people can be healthy enough to sustain opportunity and realize their potential. Our Vision To inspire a movement in which suffering people are raised up from the ashes of trauma in unconditional love to become empowered healers, community builders, and positive change makers.

Yesterday our staff at Bedford Dwellings held a health fair featuring a mobile dental unit and pediatrician’s unit. Because of their hard work, children who cannot otherwise access a doctor were able to get treatment. And at the end of July our Community Health Deputies held a clinic where they distributed vaccines and wellness checks. Here at the Neighborhood Resilience Project, we are hard at work reducing the death gap!

Yesterday we had our mid-year staff retreat! We reflected on where we’ve come and where we’re going and even found some time for fun—we played a “matching” game, in which everyone tried to find their food pairing. It was a great joy to intentionally fellowship together as we prepare for the second half of the year.

On June 21, the Neighborhood Resilience Project hosted a Barbeque as the County Wide Conveners for Violence Reduction Efforts within Allegheny County. At this event, the organization offered a place for the violence reduction organizations—their staff and children—to come and enjoy time together, fellowship and take a minute to reflect and celebrate the progress of violence reduction efforts have made across the region.

This past week, we’ve enjoyed hosting people from around the country for the in-person portion of our Trauma Informed Community Development Institute (TICD). Our students are learning all about the TICD framework, and how to implement it in their own community. We offer this course multiple times a year, so think about joining us next time! Reach out to Nick Goussetis at ngoussetis@neighborhoodresilience.org for our future TICD trainings. To learn more about TICD: https://buff.ly/4bpgcCt
