In a significant move, Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed California's AI Safety Bill, which was seen as a potential model for national AI legislation. Newsom cited concerns that the bill imposed stringent standards on both low- and high-risk AI applications without differentiation, potentially stifling innovation. While this veto highlights the complexity of AI regulation, Newsom also announced 17 other bills aimed at addressing the safe deployment of generative AI, balancing innovation with consumer protection.
