NEMSPA is the National EMS Pilots Association. Please check us out at NEMSPA.ORG Formed in 1984, NEMSPA helps EMS helicopter and fixed-wing pilots to keep abreast of current industry issues, thereby contributing to each flight program that has NEMSPA members. In order to promote issues relevant to the aeromedical industry, NEMSPA ... - participates in various meetings, seminars and summits - collaborates with organizations and government entities - actively supports relevant initiatives and programs - publishes and contributes to journals, videos, position papers and other publications

Today we will highlight Kent Johnson Kent Johnson, a true pillar of Intermountain Life Flight, is a leader who goes far beyond his role as Director of Operations. His dedication to safety, innovation, and mentorship has significantly shaped our organization. Kent's visionary leadership led to the creation of a groundbreaking partnership with Intermountain Health's Organ Transplant Services. This collaboration has tripled the number of lives saved through organ donation, making a profound impact on countless families. Kent's unwavering commitment to safety is evident in his development of a unique OCS system and a strong safety reporting culture. He fosters a culture of excellence, encouraging his team to continuously strive for improvement and innovation. As a dedicated mentor, Kent empowers and inspires those around him. He shares his knowledge, experience, and passion for air medical transport, helping others to grow and reach their full potential. Kent's 20+ year legacy includes pioneering the "En-route Decision Point" protocol, a valuable tool used throughout the industry. Throughout his tenure, Richard has always displayed excellence and professionalism. His commitment to our mission and our safety is evident with his work ethic he brings everyday to work. He has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty, ensuring that every mission is executed with precision and compassion. Richard’s expertise and calm demeanor in high-pressure situations have been crucial in numerous life-saving missions. His quick thinking and decisive actions have made a significant difference in patient outcomes, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community. One standout example is his exceptional ability to mentor new pilots. Today we will highlight Robert Soldon Captain Robert Soldon is a true champion in the world of air medical transport. With over 19 years of experience and 9,000+ flight hours, he embodies the qualities that make a truly exceptional pilot. He's renowned for his unwavering commitment to safety, his ability to collaborate seamlessly with medical teams and crew, and his continuous pursuit of knowledge and improvement. Captain Soldon's calm demeanor and quick decision-making skills provide a reassuring presence for patients and crew in even the most critical situations. A recent incident underscores his exceptional ability. Despite a night collision with birds that damaged the windshield and injured him, Captain Soldon maintained control, safely landing the crew and patient. This incident exemplifies his unwavering commitment to his duty and the well-being of those onboard. More than just a pilot, Captain Soldon is a leader, a teammate, and a true hero in the air medical field. He's a role model for his colleagues, inspiring them with his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to safety. Today we will highlight Ken Hess  Ken’s background experience in both the aviation and mechanical side of things really solidifies the depth of his technical expertise. Ken began his aviation career in the Utah Army National Guard as an AH-64A Apache helicopter mechanic and later became an UH-60 Blackhawk pilot and served as the standardization instructor pilot for his unit. Ken is currently the Tooele Base Lead Pilot and a Training Captain for the AirMed program so he keeps everything aviation and pilot-related in order at the Tooele base. He additionally currently volunteers with the Civil Air Patrol where he serves as a Squadron Commander for the Utah wing. He remains very involved in the safety culture at AirMed and served 8 years as the rotor wing advisor to the safety committee. Ken takes every opportunity to remain current at his craft and also keep med crew members as informed and knowledgeable as possible. Today we will highlight Doug Evans The nomination for Doug Evans showed he is truly an embodiment of professionalism and skill. His leadership and willingness to drive positive change in the industry is inspiring. He has been a cornerstone of Stanford Life Flight, and has cared for thousands of patients in California and Nevada. Capt Evans is utilized by all disciplines as an educational resource and leader. He carefully and skillfully educates all clinical crew on aviation skills and other items as per FAA/Certificate guidelines. He also guides the local orientation and continued education of Stanford Life Flight pilots. Having 30 years of EMS experience allows for vast amounts of technical expertise over various airframes, locations, staffing models, etc. Capt Evans is viewed as a resource for his colleagues, from other pilots and medical crew, and has also given great interviews to journalist from such organizations as NRP and The Washington Post.
