At NessCampbell Crane + Rigging, we’re committed to the safety, growth, and resilience of our local construction industry. On Nov. 5, Oregon voters will be asked to decide on many potential initiatives, including M118. This measure proposes a 3% tax on sales for Oregon businesses with revenues over $25 million. If passed, M118 will substantially impact many construction companies like ours, especially with the rising costs of building. Here’s why we’re concerned: • Measure 118 is a tax on sales: Costs will snowball as goods and services get taxed at various stages of purchasing, passing the burden along to all businesses and consumers involved. • Prices on goods and services will rise: The cost of living has already increased significantly the past few years and additional financial burdens are the last thing Oregon consumers and businesses need right now. • Lack of accountability: If M118 passes, the legislature could change it without any oversight. We don’t take this stance lightly.
