The imperative of ensuring children's health is finally being recognized. And healthy children start with healthy caregivers. Caregivers with health issues are 1.5X more likely to have children with unmet medical needs compared to caregivers in good health.* For decades we've seen articles and warnings, but so few solutions. That's why it's so encouraging to see initiatives like the child tax credit gaining attention from both sides of the political aisle. The child tax credit provides essential financial support to caregivers, helping to alleviate the financial strain of raising children. When caregivers are financially stable and have access to resources they need, they are better equipped to offer emotional support, education, and proper nutrition to their children. The Surgeon General's words in The New York Times, highlighting the stress and mental health challenges faced by parents and caregivers, are incredibly powerful and hit close to the Nest Health home. I constantly find myself asking: Why, during the most stressful and challenging period of someone’s life — the journey into and through parenthood — are they left to fend for themselves? There is more care and support provided to people when they get a knee replaced... I can’t stop thinking about this line: "We got through it because of excellent medical care, understanding workplaces, and loved ones who showed up and reminded us that we were not alone." For some, these are privileges, while for many American families, they remain enormous gaps and barriers. We hear the advice to "put your oxygen mask on first" so you can care for your children, but many lack the support or resources to do so. This issue extends beyond parental health; to truly support children and future generations, we must also care for their families. This inextricable link between parents and their children is often overlooked in medical care, mental health services, and social support, but acknowledging it is essential to address this systemic problem. As Vivek Murthy writes, families no longer need platitudes; they need real solutions. That’s why I am building Nest Health, the first value-based care provider actually built for families.

#LifeintheNest: Each month, the full Nest Health team gathers in our "Parliament" meetings to talk strategy, share recent learnings and challenges, and to recognize our monthly "Featured Feather." Last month, we celebrated our Featured Feather, Manager, Coding, CDI, and Billing, Donna Watson. Donna ensures our clinical team delivers excellent care to Nest families by meeting all compliance requirements and accurately documenting our time with them. She provides all of the information that our health plan partners need so that they can record the value we drive through exceptional patient care. Donna has been instrumental in developing world-class policies and identifying operational needs as we continue to grow and onboard new payer partners. Congratulations, Donna! We're so proud to share that #TulaneVentures' first investment is to Nest Health. We're honored to be partnered with such an innovative and community-centered organization to scale excellent care to more families across Louisiana, together. We shared the news last week at an event hosted by the Tulane University Innovation Institute where our Founder & CEO Rebekah E. Gee MD MPH, alongside two of her daughters, introduced a showing of the film "Show Her the Money." The event provided female founders and entrepreneurs the space to talk about challenges they face in fundraising and building businesses.
