The Governor’s Office of Energy is proud to announce that Nevada has been awarded $7.5 million in FY 2024 funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office through the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants. These funds will be distributed to Nevada’s small utilities through a competitive application process, enabling them to strengthen and modernize the state’s electric grid. This critical funding will enhance grid resilience, helping Nevada better withstand extreme weather events and natural disasters. #BuildingABetterGrid

University of Nevada, Las Vegas innovators are turning to nature — specifically tree frogs and air plants – for inspiration in their quest to combat the Southwest region’s mounting water woes. Newly published research shows how their technique, which blends biologic processes with the latest engineering tech, holds great promise to harvest water from ambient air – even in dry desert climates “There are so many cool things happening in nature – you just have to look around, learn, and be inspired,” said Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine (SWSIE) collaborator and UNLV College of Engineering professor H. Jeremy Cho, who teamed with peers from SWSIE partner University of Utah on the research. The best part: it’s not a far-off fantasy. The research is already being put into practical use in the form of WAVR Technologies, the premiere university business spinoff supported by SWSIE resources. The effort is also supported in part by UNLV Office of Economic Development and the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) Knowledge Fund program. #NSF #NationalScienceFoundation #SWSIE #SouthwestSustainabilityInnovationEngine https://lnkd.in/g75pPJpM

A prime example of effectively commercializing use-inspired research out of our universities under the CHIPS Act's NSF Engines program! With support from GOED's Knowledge Fund University of Nevada-Las Vegas's WAVR was born and is strengthening the Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine, SWSIE. Keep up the great work! This translation in emerging and critical technologies will drive Nevada's sustainable economic growth for decades to come.
We love Las Vegas, but we dread our dwindling fresh water supply. The stakes couldn't be higher. At WAVR we're working hard on our breakthrough atmospheric water harvesting technology to enable a water secure future for our community and others facing this same challenge across the globe. We're excited to be featured on Channel 3 NBC News as we continue to develop our technology and applications. https://lnkd.in/g6eTpMqc #sustainability, #waterneutral, #sustainablewater, #waterinnovation, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, UNLV Office of Economic Development, UNLV College of Engineering, NSF Engines: Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine (SWSIE), Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED), Desert Research Institute, Southern Nevada Water Authority, KTNV Channel 13 Action News

OWINN and Nevadaworks were awarded $1,998,841 by the US Department of Labor to empower Project Clean Energy Jobs Academy (CEJA) to reach 2,500 workers over the next five years for high-quality employment opportunities in the clean energy sector and #lithium battery supply chain. Project CEJA focuses on Career Literacy, Employer Engagement, Job Training, and Assistance for Workers. “This grant will give people access to develop skills and connect them to the jobs they want early,” said DETR Director Christopher Sewell. “This is an opportunity to help grow a skilled, diverse, and aligned workforce in Nevada by promoting collaboration and cooperation among entities focused on workforce development.” OWINN and Nevadaworks will develop and implement a regional worker-centered sector strategy program focused on Nevada’s clean energy economy. OWINN and Nevadaworks will identify and expand the recruitment, training and education, and retention of workers in advanced manufacturing occupations in the Clean Energy and Transportation sectors. The project aims to strengthen the national supply chain of lithium, ensuring Nevada’s historically marginalized Native American and rural communities, which are geographically linked to many of Nevada’s vast lithium deposits, benefit from these efforts. "We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will significantly strengthen our infrastructure for workforce training in the clean energy sector. This support helps us to better prepare Nevada's workforce for the growing opportunities in this industry," said Milt Stewart, CEO of Nevadaworks. This project is building about the Nevada Lithium Batteries and Other EV Material Loop (Nevada Tech Hub), a statewide effort led by the University of Nevada, Reno to strengthen America’s lithium batteries, critical elements and other electric vehicle materials industry sectors within the state.

Startup Champions Network (#SNCLV2025) will be coming to #LasVegas next Spring: https://lnkd.in/ggJdnNbg! Encouraging entrepreneurship is a key pillar of economic development. We're excited to welcome you all out to our great state and build on the momentum set by last week's #SCNBayArea. Stay tuned... 🎉
🎉 This week’s #SCNBayArea was indeed an event to “build community power” – thank you to host Alfredo Mathew III and Startup Champions Network! We enjoyed seeing Oakland, Richmond and even downtown San Francisco through new eyes, as well as through the eyes of those making great strides after being historically under-supported. 👏 Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) is excited to see this continued transformation through our hosting of SCN in Las Vegas for Spring 2025, where our hospitality sector itself is diversifying, along with communities in North Las Vegas, the Historic Westside, across Clark County, and throughout Nevada. 🫨 We look forward to bringing you continued insights on ways we can work together as a global community to support entrepreneurship. What better way to see through SCN's 10year anniversary, than Getting S!@# Done? See you at #SCNLV2025! 🙏 Thanks to our current committed partners for the opportunity of a lifetime, to innovate and acculturate in Las Vegas: Clark County Nevada, City of Las Vegas, Pitch Mayhem, Nevada Office of Small Business Advocacy, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA), Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority, Black Fire Innovation, UNR Innevation Center, College of Southern Nevada, and across the Nevada System of Higher Education.
