City of New Albany elected officials and staff joined Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) representatives today to celebrate the completion of the State Route 161 widening project in Franklin County! This major improvement added a third lane in each direction along 6.3 miles of State Route 161 between I-270 and U.S. 62, expanding the highway from four lanes to six. The new lanes opened earlier this week, with final paving scheduled for spring. The project also includes upgrades like the widened ramp from State Route 161 west to I-270 north and future noise walls in select areas to reduce sound for neighboring communities. Thank you to all our partners for making travel through New Albany smoother and safer! Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/ekup43YE #newalbanyohio #SiliconHeartland #transportation

Last week, the City of New Albany welcomed the German American Semiconductor Cities Network (GASCN) delegation, a cross-border initiative by the American Council on Germany. This network is an exciting collaboration aimed at fostering an exchange of best practices in semiconductor-related economic development. Notably, this effort is driven by Magdeburg, Germany—a city currently building an Intel fab known as the “Silicon Junction” and a neighbor to Dresden, sister city to Columbus. Together with Chandler, Arizona, and New Albany, the network aims to explore how transformative semiconductor investments like Intel can be. The “American Tour” began with the delegation visiting Chandler before arriving in Columbus, where they spent a morning in New Albany. Our economic development specialist, Alex Klosterman, provided a community overview and led a tour around the Intel site and surrounding business park. The delegation met with the Intel team to learn more about site progress and community partnerships, then participated in a panel discussion with representatives from New Albany, One Columbus, and JobsOhio. Leadership from FRAMEWORK, a planning initiative based in Licking County, also delivered a presentation about regional planning and partnerships. The GASCN initiative is supported by the German federal government and includes monthly virtual meetings and planned city tours across the U.S. and Germany, bringing together elected officials, city planners, and engineers to share insights on semiconductor-driven economic growth. We’re honored to be part of this impactful global collaboration! #NewAlbanyOhio

Please help us welcome Randy Lytle back to the City of New Albany as a dispatcher! In 2022, he left the department to serve Franklin County in a nonprofit. In this role, he mentored and assisted youth in the area. After making a lasting legacy, he decided to pass the baton to a younger leader. With a background in military and law enforcement, Randy decided to leverage his skills to serve the City of New Albany again. He enjoys playing in a disc golf club for veterans, watching hours of football every weekend, and taking his Newfoundland dog on nature walks. Randy has a passion for faith, exercise, sports, and Lord of the Rings. Are you interested in a career with the City of New Albany? The City of New Albany is pleased to announce that it has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award represents a significant achievement by the City. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City of New Albany had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. There are over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA’s website. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. #NewAlbanyOhio (Pictured: City of New Albany Finance Department members, (Back row left to right) Mike Khoury, Ethan Charles Barnhardt, MPA, Jeremy Gray, Candace Cook (Front row left to right) Cindy Powell, Bethany Staats, CPA, Morgan Joeright, Megan Thomas)
