We are dedicated to renewing the promise of America.
About us
We are dedicated to renewing the promise of America by continuing the quest to realize our nation’s highest ideals. New America is a new kind of think-and-action tank: a civic platform that connects a research institute, technology lab, solutions network, media hub, and public forum. We generate big, bold ideas as templates for change. We design and advance evidence-based public policies. We surface, share, and scale locally generated and tested solutions to public problems through a national and global network of public, private, and civic partners. We develop legal, political, and technological tools to build democratic capacity and enable solutions to grow and spread. We tell stories about what is happening and what is possible, to give Americans a window into what we are capable of achieving together and a vision of what a renewed America could and should be.

💲 Funding Early Childhood Special Education: What Does It Take? My newest piece focuses on the Center for Early Learning Funding Equity's work in Wyoming to rethink funding strategies to support young children with disabilities. It's complicated, and it's critical. Special thanks to Theresa Hawley, Sessy Nyman, & Autumn Hagstrom for sharing your story and for your tremendous work. via New America – Education Policy Program #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ECE #PreK #Preschool #SpecialEducation #ECSE #EarlyLearning #Disability #Disabilities #DisabilityPolicy #EducationPolicy #EdPolicy #Education #EducationFunding #EdFunding #SchoolFunding #ECEFunding #SpEdFunding #SpecialEducationFunding

Check out my interview with Laura Kelly from the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) to learn more about how #debt is holding back development; and how we can alleviate these debt burdens with holistic approaches. A really important read if you want to learn more about #DebtBurdens and #ClimateFinance ahead of the The World Bank's Fall Meetings next week, and the new #finance goal that's getting hashed out at #COP29 next month - the #NCQG. Without financial resources, nations can't afford an #EnergyTransition, let alone #ClimateAdaptation, #ClimateMitigation, or #LossAndDamage. Thanks for pointing this out Shalin. NSF has always and will continue to invest in early careers and fundamental discoveries pioneered by our amazing researchers. We are proud to have invested in 265 Nobel Laureates so far (early and sustained investments through their careers)

🏆The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Physics to John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton "for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks." 💸But did you know? National Science Foundation (NSF) made an initial award to Hinton in 1989, during the #AI winter, when nobody was investing in AI. Nobody believing in AI. It helped create the foundation for today's AI revolution. As David Brooks outlined in The New York Times just this morning, that's the case for innovation-centered industrial policy as per the #CHIPSAct, especially the "science" part of the act. Earlier this year, Sethuraman Panchanathan made the case for sustained investment in NSF during a conversation hosted by New America's Future of Work & Innovation Economy Initiative on NSF Engines - one of the broadest innovation-based industrial policy levers in the modern era.
