The plan to deprecate cookies has been... well, deprecated. 👀 Although Google’s years-long campaign to eliminate third-party cookies has reached a surprising conclusion, the need for strong data privacy safeguards isn't going anywhere. “Consumers don’t want to be tracked. Period,” says New Engen SVP of Advanced Measurement & Analytics, Andrew Richardson. As digital marketers, we have an obligation to champion solutions that protect our customers and their data. 👥 Get advice from Andrew and other New Engen leaders in our latest article. 👇

Thank you, Chris Kelly, for the feature! Our SVP of Advanced Analytics & Measurement, Andrew Richardson, was quoted in Marketing Drive. “Brands and agencies may feel relieved by this news, but they shouldn’t let their guard down. Even without this development, signals are already eroding,” Richardson said in emailed comments. “As an industry, we need to prioritize consumer privacy and adapt to a world without cookies rather than trying to circumvent the inevitable decline of these signals.” Check out the full article below to learn more about Google's decision to step away from deprecating cookies.

Important call to action from Andrew Richardson - my colleague and one of our industry's esteemed voices on measurement and data privacy. While Google has elected to halt the deprecation of third-party cookies, the cost of standing still remains. In Andrew's recent interview with Marketing Dive, he cautions: "Brands and agencies may feel relieved by this news, but they shouldn’t let their guard down. Even without this development, signals are already eroding. As an industry, we need to prioritize consumer privacy and adapt to a world without cookies rather than trying to circumvent the inevitable decline of these signals." At New Engen, Inc., we are investing in capabilities, partnerships, and strategies that will ensure our clients can navigate and thrive through an increasingly challenging digital advertising environment. Consumers don't want to be tracked. Period. We as marketers cannot stop the progress that's been made with putting the customer and their privacy at the forefront simply because Chrome isn't getting rid of cookies. We must keep pushing forward and finding new and better and sometimes old (I'm looking at you MMM) ways to measure media performance beyond cookie tracking. Continue to invest in not just collecting 1P data, but using it - and doing so in a privacy-safe way and also think about the value exchange that needs to exist for your customers to give you access to their data. Yes, THEIR data.

Is TikTok Shops the social commerce breakthrough? It might be. And its time to take shops seriously if you haven't already. We recently ran a test with a CPG client where we ran a new customer promo through Shops. The results were off the charts: ✅ Shopify tracked TikTok Revenue scaled 880% QoQ ✅ TikTok spend scaled 471% relative to baseline ✅ Relative to a normal onsite sale, we saw 3-4x scale on TikTok specifically Of course there is nuance in the above data, but these outlier sized numbers scream opportunity. In most tests we run, we're not seeing 400%+ lift - unless there is a formula error in excel 🙂. How are you strategizing around shops and social commerce? I talk about Shops' potential and more in this week's newsletter (see comments for link).

Is advertising on Threads worth the investment? 🤔 In Digiday's latest article, our VP of Digital Marketing, Kevin Goodwin, shares his thoughts on Meta’s move to advertise on Thread. “Brands just don’t see the audience there yet — some of this is not understanding who that Threads audience really is, and some of this is lack of faith that an engaged audience is really there.” Despite Threads reaching 175 million monthly active users, engagement remains low, with users averaging only 7 minutes per day over 3 sessions. Marketers are still questioning the platform’s audience and potential impact. In a landscape where marketers are are trying to do more while still being mindful of budgets, Threads could be a valuable addition if it overcomes these engagement challenges. What’s your take on Threads as a new advertising frontier? Read the full article in the comments below. 👇 Thanks for the feature, Krystal Scanlon! #DigitalMarketing #SocialMediaStrategy #Threads #MarketingTrends #Digiday #Meta #ThreadsTrends #DigitalMarketingUpdates
