The recent brush fires in Barre, Holden, and Salem were fueled by uncharacteristically warm, dry, and windy conditions. Weather events like these are expected to become more extreme with the effects brought on by climate change. We are already witnessing wetter winter and springs, which have led to catastrophic flooding across New England. The other extreme will be hotter and dryer weather in the summer and fall. We must plan for events like these in our region and support organizations like NEFF that are actively working to mitigate the effects of climate change.
