NHFPI’s Jessica Williams discusses long Covid’s effect on the workforce and economy in an interview with Roger Wood. “About 17 percent of NH’s population has experienced long-Covid at some point throughout the pandemic. When we look at the number of people who experienced Covid-19, about 1 in 4 individuals with a diagnosis go on to experience long-Covid according to data from the CDC. We estimate that approximately 4000 workers in NH are still out of the state’s workforce because of their long-Covid symptoms. In addition, about 5300 people have reduced their hours because of long-covid with most people reducing their hours on average by about 10 hours per week.” 🎧 Listen now: https://rogerwood.news/

“A recent report from the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute, outlining potential changes to federal Medicaid policy and the impact on states, suggests that road may not be easy. The report notes that state revenues – before adjusting for inflation – have fallen behind previous years and that the state has a number of other large expenses to account for this budget cycle, including paying settlements and legal fees related to alleged abuse against youth in state care, building a new men’s prison, and possible education funding changes mandated by the state Supreme Court.” Read our report: https://lnkd.in/eZ4HEkNJ Read more from the NH Bulletin: https://lnkd.in/g8_xtHHV

“Phil Sletten, research director at the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute, said Medicaid is the single largest program the state operates, with about 55 percent of its funding, or $1.39 billion in fiscal year 2024, coming from the federal government. If that funding were interrupted for enough time, the state would either have to find another way to fund or change the program, Sletten said.” Read more in our report: https://lnkd.in/eZ4HEkNJ Read more in the Boston Globe Media: https://lnkd.in/ewVpFSjE

“Medicaid provides access to health services for over 180,000 Granite Staters. The proposed changes could substantially impact access to health care and the financial capacity of our state to fund public services,” said Phil Sletten, NHFPI’s research director and author of the report. “A reduced federal match rate could lead to the repeal of critical programs, leaving New Hampshire with difficult budget choices in an already challenging fiscal environment.” Read more in our report: https://lnkd.in/eZ4HEkNJ Read more in the Union Leader: https://lnkd.in/gM_SV4Ee
