The award-winning magazine, in partnership with the New Mexico Tourism Department, also publishes the official New Mexico Vacation Guide and the International Vacation Guides (translated into Spanish, French, German, Italian and Japanese). Founded in 1923, New Mexico Magazine reigns as the longest-tenured state magazine in the United States, while ranking as the third-largest state-owned publication in circulation. Continuing the celebration of New Mexico's History Makers, we turn to award-winning Tewa sculptor and mixed-media artist Rose B. Simpson. Her latest project, “Strata,” stands as a 26-foot-tall steel, clay, and pumice concrete installation at The Cleveland Museum of Art. Growing up in a renowned family of sculptors, painters, and other artists, Simpson views her art as a powerful agent for positive change. Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm sits on 25 acres tucked into a bend of the Río Grande, its low-slung buildings set back from the road and separated by lavender fields, garden rows, and pens of clucking chickens and Navajo-Churro sheep. The effect is shockingly serene, pastoral, and private, especially considering it’s nearly in the middle of Albuquerque. But that contrast typifies this relaxed Michelin two-key stay. The dining room is sometimes dotted with famous faces, but for foodies, the biggest stars are on the plate. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gREjwKsy

Not much changes in Magdalena. So people took note when Tumbleweeds Diner, with its colorful storefront mural, opened on US 60 in March 2021. The owners, Osiris Navarro and Michal Gola, had come from Seattle after the pandemic slammed the brakes on their Gola’s Kitchen catering business. Their mission was never to bring Seattle to the desert, but to bring the desert into their new life as diner owners in a place where time moves a little slower and the skies go on forever. For nearly two decades, the International Women’s Forum of New Mexico has been celebrating the long and colorful legacy of women trailblazers in New Mexico through the New Mexico Historic Women. This year, in collaboration with New Mexico Magazine, the program has expanded to recognize eight living legends and emerging leaders who are shaping our history today. Among these contemporary history makers is Paula Garcia, the executive director of the New Mexico Acequia Association. For over 20 years, she has been a tireless advocate for the preservation of traditional irrigation waterways, water sovereignty policy, and land and water education. Feminist icon Harmony Hammond weaves a rich vocabulary of symbolism into a new exhibition at SITE Santa Fe, "Harmony Hammond: FRINGE," which opens on February 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. In the show, the mixed-media abstractions are in dialogue with her work from the 1970s, effectively blurring the line between two- and three-dimensional modes of artistic representation.
