Why do we work in Latin America? That's a question we hear often. The answer is simple: your support goes exponentially further in Latin America. Right now, around 80% of families in Mexico can't afford the average home in the market. The need for housing is critical and the resources are scarce. By focusing on this underserved region, we're not just building houses — we're transforming entire communities.

Yesterday, our CEO Brett Hagler made a bold commitment on the Clinton Global Initiative main stage focused on empowering women and girls. New Story pledges to unlock land and home ownership for 15,000 low-income families, including 36,000 women and girls. Our innovative approach: 1. Partner with municipalities to secure permitting for well-located land 2. Develop lots with essential services and payment plan for families to become landowners 3. Collaborate with financial institutions to offer home financing We're transforming unbanked beneficiaries into empowered homeowners with a clear path to asset accumulation. Big thanks to the CGI team for sharing our commitment and hosting us in NYC this week. Join us in our mission as an impact investor or strategic donor to create sustainable change and provide secure homes for those who need them most.

Meet Catherine Colyer, our new board member! As COO of WaterEquity, she's a leader in mobilizing private capital for social impact. Under her guidance, over $400 million has been invested to reach more than 6 million people with water and sanitation access. With 25+ years in regulatory compliance, financial services, and fair lending, Catherine brings invaluable expertise to our mission to end the global housing crisis. Catherine told us, "I have seen the difference it makes when a community has the opportunity to meet its own fundamental needs, such as gaining access to safe water. Housing is an equally fundamental need, and New Story is so impressively committed to — and effective at — empowering families to become land and homeowners. I'd like to see New Story continue to scale and succeed, and want to provide any help to that end that I can." "Today, there's about 1.8 billion humans that live in inadequate housing. The problem is just so large that there's no way that one organization or a few organizations can... end it by ourselves because it's just so big. So our goal is [to] prove the model, really catalyze and pioneer solutions, and then have a strategy... where others can replicate it." Tune in to this episode of "The Social Impact Leader", hosted by Jeff Shinabarger, to hear our CEO Brett Hagler share how New Story is trying to bring more innovation to the nonprofit industry. https://lnkd.in/gPVbu8Sz

When the local government had an open call for applications to the Las Fuentes community in Etzatlán, Mexico, Miriam was excited to see that the payment program was more affordable compared to other programs. “Buying a home can be scary, and there usually isn’t a lot of support to do it. But the land program had support and it was easier to make monthly payments instead of larger payments.” Now that her family finished payments towards their own plot of land, Miriam is close to securing her dream two-story home, where they can operate a storefront on the first floor and live on the second floor. We’re excited to continue this work across Mexico with the support of investors and philanthropists. Find ways to get involved here: https://lnkd.in/gFC4cYqm
