Who would have thought that queuing for the ladies loo was a measure of diversity at a conference! It is interesting to read the external view of Amy Austin of FT Adviser on how there was a refreshing buzz amongst delegates, about the financial planning and advice profession. There was passion and energy in the room. The post conference feedback from delegates also resonates - with the opportunity to have direct and meaningful dialogue with Nick Hulme and his team at the Financial Conduct Authority being high on the list of aspects most valued. On my way to London for the most prestigious day of the year for LIBF. I am very proud and humbled to be leading the procession at the Guild Hall in London. This is the start of my journey today, our students will be beginning a very different journey embarking on new careers and we wish them every success for the future. We will also have 60 Graduates from our level 6 Financial Advice qualifications. A very proud moment for them all.

I’m reflecting on the Consumer Duty Alliance’s first in-person conference on Friday, which was an outstanding success. I left with a feeling that there was a new refreshing attitude of working together as community and in partnership with the Financial Conduct Authority, to evolve the financial planning and advice profession into one that is recognised as a safe pair of hands in society. It was refreshing to be in a break out session with the FCA team members and being able to give direct feedback and to be able to openly discuss some of the frustrations and ways to improve. It was gratifying to see the event being supported by so many sponsoring providers and The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI) and LIBF. As a practicing financial planner and the owner of a financial planning business, I found it really valuable to hear directly from others in my position and to learn from their experiences. Thank you to Ruth Sturkey for being such a brilliant host for the day.
