About us
New York Common Pantry is New York City's largest community-based food pantry that focuses on under-served communities throughout NYC. We offer our services through several programs. Our Choice Pantry Program is designed to meet the needs of our families by providing culturally-appropriate and nutritiously-balanced food. This model empowers our Pantry members by encouraging them to select the food they would like to receive. Groceries are distributed as follows: • East Harlem Location (8 E 109th Street, NYC): every Wednesday through Saturday, from 10am - 2:30pm • Bronx Location (1290 Hoe Avenue): every Thursday and Friday, 10am - 2:00pm, and Saturday, 10am - 2:00pm Currently the Hot Meals program at our East Harlem location serves one, to-go meal daily, Monday through Friday, at 2:30 pm. Brown Bag lunches are served on weekends and holidays, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Project Dignity’s array of services is designed to meet the most basic needs of our homeless visitors – food, hygiene services and mail service – as well as the larger, more challenging issues they face: stable housing and access to public benefits. Help 365 helps our guests achieve stability and access to entitled benefits, such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Social Security Supplemental Income. It also provides assistance with accessing other appropriate resources to prevent families from being evicted from their homes and by making employment referrals. Nourish, our Senior Nutrition Program, aims to improve the health of low-income individuals who are 60+ years old by providing nutritious food choices from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Nourish serves 16,000+ eligible seniors/month at 90+ sites located in Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and lower Westchester County. Live Healthy! encourages participants to embrace healthy eating, active living, resiliency skills, and social support to improve overall quality of life.

We’re excited to share our first delivery from The Grandpa Farm! We received peppers, celery, jalapeños and cabbage! Their passion is to grow fresh produce for their community, working the land and having time for their family. The Grandpa Farm is providing fresh produce for New York Common Pantry through the NYFNYF program. Owner, Elvia Trujillo says, "The NYFNYF program has helped us increase our production and improve our cash flow. Working with this program and New York Common Pantry has been a great experience." You can learn more about The Grandpa Farm on our website located under ‘Community Partners,’ the ‘New York Food for New York Families’ tab. https://lnkd.in/e6Rj-pk6 #newyork #newyorkcity #local #foodpantry #farmfresh #farm

“When I made the fish tacos, about three or four guests came up to me and gave me that look and said, ‘this is very good, very delicious, very tasty.’ They were congratulating and thanking me and the Pantry for serving such a delicious meal. When I have fish or seafood as an ingredient to work with, I put my magic to it and get to watch all of our participants enjoy it. I like it because it allows me to do something different; I can bake, stir fry, steam, or make it into a stew. I enjoy cooking with fish.” - Marlon, Lead Chef at New York Common Pantry For these fish tacos Chef Marlon is referring to, we are using wild Atlantic cod from Fulton Fish Market. Thank you to our partners at @fultonfishmarket Fulton Fish Market and GoGenerosity for making this possible! Through GoGenerosity, consumers shopping at Fulton Fish Market can pay-it-forward when shopping online. The money donated is given to charity partners (that's us!) as store vouchers, so we can collect and provide the products to those in need in our community. If you love seafood and want to learn more about how you could pay it forward when you shop at Fulton Fish Market, check out: https://lnkd.in/gNBmb49k #gogenerosity #payitforward #begenerous #meettheneed #foodsecurity #food #foodpantry #nyc #newyorkcity

Reyna Patel joined NYCP as an Intern from the Summer Public Health Scholars Program at Columbia University. Her favorite thing about NYCP is the wide variety of programming that addresses food insecurity across the community. During her internship, she worked with NYCP’s Live Healthy! team and was involved with a variety of programs from nutrition lessons for elementary school students to food distribution for Farmshare. For her research project, she visited grocery stores in the Bronx to assess whether healthy groceries are accessible to residents of that area.
