This year’s edition of New York’s annual “Power Issue,” reported by features writer Charlotte Klein, is an examination of the media industry in a time of enormous financial turmoil and record public distrust. For the package, Klein interviews 57 of the most powerful people in the media for dozens of hours of candid conversations about the industry’s past, present, and future. Klein writes in her introduction, “Everyone we spoke with agreed that the business of media keeps changing and not, for the most part, for the better. Some are trying to keep legacy institutions viable; some are trying to build new ones; some are sole proprietors of their own brands—which may or may not be the future for all. Given this business undergirds the actual journalism people receive, we wanted to understand the biggest concerns and threats to it at this moment and what an actual path forward might look like.” Read more about the issue here: https://lnkd.in/eyHRgvpA

The latest issue of New York is a special dual political cover with features by Olivia Nuzzi and Rebecca Traister, each examining the historic upending of the presidential race over the summer and how we got to the current moment. Traister writes a sweeping deep dive into the grassroots movements, primarily led by women and people of color, that propelled Kamala Harris’s ascension to the top of the ticket, examining how Democratic politics has been entirely reshaped since the 2016 election by forces far removed from Washington and largely invisible to the pundit class. And Nuzzi sits down with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago for a revealing and intimate conversation with a man on the brink of self-reflection as he reels from his assassination attempt and the changing shape of the race and grapples with the existence of God. The second cover for The Cut's Fall Fashion Issue is a self-portrait shot by Usher himself, with additional photography by Stevie Dance and styling by Jessica Willis. Usher is profiled by Jazmine Hughes. In addition to the cover and photo portfolio, the issue includes a special tear-out poster of the star. From her letter to readers, The Cut’s editor-in-chief Lindsay Peoples states that Usher “..at 45 [seems to have] reached what most would consider the climax of their career: headlining the Super Bowl halftime show as the first independent artist ever to do it. But as you’ll see, if you think he’s done, think again.” Read Usher’s profile here: https://lnkd.in/dkSFMCnx

The Cut released its first-ever solo print issue, “Fall Fashion,” with cover stars Chloë Sevigny and Usher. The issue will bring readers more of what they love — features, conversation-starting essays, and outstanding fashion and beauty coverage — in time for New York Fashion Week. For the issue, Lindsay Peoples addressed readers with a letter celebrating the issue as a new chapter for the brand as she reaches her fourth year as editor-in-chief of the Cut: “In these past 40-plus months, the team has evolved, and so too has what it means to create a modern magazine that is responsive to what women and femmes care about most and, of course, want to read. The Cut’s first solo issue is the beginning of a new chapter and was a labor of love from every editor who pored over these pages. What makes this era of the Cut exciting is more than just words on the page — it’s this team’s consistent effort to meet the moment.” Read more about the issue and find the full editor’s letter here: https://lnkd.in/gQUeTvn8

Don’t be thrown off by interviewers asking “tell me about yourself” when they already have a copy of your résumé in front of them! They’re not saying, “Introduce yourself to me as if we just met on the street and I know nothing at all about you.” They’re saying, “Give me a brief overview of who you are as a professional as a way to get this conversation going.” More from Alison Green here. https://lnkd.in/eE8J3fTw
