We had an amazing time last Thursday celebrating the completion of the almost 1.2 MW solar project at the Cloisters apartment building. As part of D.C.'s Department of Energy and the Environment's #SolarforAll program, the Cloisters system will cut the bills of 325 income-qualified residents by 50% for the next 15 years! Huge thank you to Horning and the Cloisters team, as well as the Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) and the DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU) for making this project a reality. #solarforall #solarenergy

Wood Mackenzie a respected researcher on all things energy, issued a report last week saying that utilities are not ready for the projected electricity demand growth coming by the end of this decade. The report says that power demand across the U.S. will rise 4% to 15% depending on the region by 2029, and because of the long lead times to build infrastructure, that growth could overwhelm utilities. One way to help address this issue is to build more distributed energy projects including community solar, and New Columbia Solar develops and builds just these sorts of projects. No question, infrastructure challenges must be addressed, and no one technology will provide the solution, but speedier permitting and more aggressive policies supporting community solar can take some pressure off the grid. #solarenergy #distributedgeneration #gridreliability https://bit.ly/3UmMj01

The recent devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton is a stark reminder of the urgent need for resilient and sustainable building solutions. We do not need to abandon places threatened by increasingly intense weather, and this LEED certified single-family home development proves just that. “Residents who stayed through both hurricanes told CNN they suffered little to no damage. Neither the heavy surge flooding from Helene nor the strong winds from Milton devastated their homes. Solar power and battery storage kept the lights on all night and the following days.” #resilience #futureproofing #solarandstorage https://cnn.it/487MWAo

This morning, the staff here starting sorting and palletizing for delivery the first shipments of supplies heading up to the greater Asheville, NC area. This first round with the support of employees and neighboring churches. Once dropped off in Asheville, they will be loaded onto ATV's and brought to people who are still cut off. For the foreseeable future, Greentech Renewables employees will be working to source materials and provide logistical support in getting equipment and supplies where they are needed the most after the events of Hurricane Helene. We ask that if you are interested in donating financially, that you do so here: https://lnkd.in/e_eXbXq8 If you have any supplies or equipment, please coordinate with the local Greentech Renewables here: Greentech Renewables North Carolina Greentech Renewables South Carolina

Michael J. Healy spoke to industrial property owners at Bisnow's Mid-Atlantic Industrial summit this morning about the critical role the built environment, especially industrial properties, play in the renewable transition. "Our industrial rooftops can help meet ambitious climate goals and address economic problems associated with power generation, and the best part is, you stand to benefit financially from this transition. In short, industrial building owners have the opportunity to be clean energy champions and transform the grid." #solarenergy #communitysolar #bisnow #industrialrealestate

ICF projects large demand increases across the US, with the largest in the Mid-Atlantic, where demand could grow 68% by 2050. One solution? “Targeted deployment of DER programs...to offset traditional distribution investments” #energy #solarenergy #renewables https://bit.ly/4ewow5B
