Happy 4th of July from NewDay Services!! We wish you a safe weekend celebrating!

God uses NewDay staff in our community to transfer hope by being a tangible expression of His love. Our programs are strategies to build redemptive relationships in the context of real-world family distress. NewDay staff assist individuals in navigating complex personal and systemic barriers to moving forward. This includes spiritual care, parenting and life skills education, pastoral counseling, family mediation, advocacy, prayer, mentoring, life coaching, and Bible classes. Here is the short answer (please note this example is from 19 years of experience and not from one particular story); I was sitting in on a meeting when a frantic knock on the door caught my full attention. “We have a person in our office talking about hurting themselves,” said a staff member from the court. After politely excusing myself from the meeting, I was led to the office where the person was sitting with his arms crossed, who clearly was very angry. I invited him into my office where he could be more comfortable. When we arrived at my office, I heard a story of frustration, fear, and hopelessness, followed by tears. This person was in desperate need of hope, love, and truth. He had been fighting everyone and everything. The world looked like Mt. Everest to him. But a caring ear gave him a little hope. By adding truth and love to the hope tank, I was able to help him calm down. I helped him to come up with a plan, and a precious smile was returned. Chaplaincy provides the element of hope that is more precious than oxygen because without it there wouldn’t be any reason to breathe. These days all of us may be struggling to keep ourselves above water. It seems like we are drowning without help or hope, and the worst part is that you begin to believe no one cares. Now, you would be amazed at how far a little love and care can carry someone. A simple act of kindness can inspire change and hope. This is my calling, to listen and be kind to others. This is what the Lord has placed in my heart and through Him and only Him, I will continue to inspire hope through His word. How lonely and invisible these teens and families can feel when they are battling their most challenging trials. Walking through the front lobby of the Juvenile Justice Center (JJC), a juvenile waved and said hi to me. She asked, “Do you remember me?.” I needed her help with her name, but then memories filled my mind. I hadn’t seen her since February, when she was released. I asked her what was helping her to maintain her freedom. Her list included her new (foster) family’s support. She remembered that prayer helped while she was detained too. Mike, our other Chaplain at the JJC, and I had multiple opportunities to pray with her while she was at the JJC. “Are you going to church now, too?,” I asked her. Her foster grandmother spoke up and said that they do have a church, but they haven’t been able to go recently due to the continuous occurrence of personal matters. I then turned to the teen girl for a few words of encouragement. I mentioned to her that it sounded like she was on a path of personal success and headed towards a time of spiritual growth. When I asked if she knew about Psalm119:105, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path,” she answered, “No ma’am, I don’t really know the Bible. I don’t have one.” By the end of the conversation, she was walking out of the building with her own Bible from us. Her foster family was also given one for their youngest biological child, who had accompanied them that day. On this day, my faith grew. I love that I get to be a Chaplain. Chaplain Kristi’s story is one of many that speak to the impact of our Father’s love on the hearts of everyone. Chaplains can provide comfort, hope, and the Lord’s love to teens that may not have otherwise had the opportunity to receive. Families at the Family Law Center going through a family breakup are anxious, and afraid of losing custody of their children. NewDay Services provides pastoral care and support to families/children at the Tarrant County Family Law Center (FLC-1997) and the Tarrant County Juvenile Justice/Detention Center (JJC-2000).

Our FOCUS+ Parenting Classes’ Mentor Navigators are highly relational dedicated points of contact, that help parents realize their potential as parents. They seek to directly increase the parents’ resilience, and ability to access concrete and social support, through life coaching, service coordination, case management, and crisis intervention. The outcomes of these interventions are greater parent skills and efficacy, self-sufficiency, improved personal well-being, healthy relationships, and access to resources. NewDay Services works diligently to keep children and parents together by serving and teaching families from diverse cultures and backgrounds how to navigate the courts, develop new skills, and find jobs. Research shows that early childhood experiences affect behavior, biology and health; and when parents are supported in the parenting journey, children thrive. NewDay Services walks alongside parents, through classes and coaching, on their journeys to becoming the role models their children need to grow up in a safe, loving home. NewDay Services Co-Parenting Classes seek to build a bridge in the co-parenting relationship to better meet the needs of children.

NewDay Services works tirelessly throughout 49 counties in North Texas to serve many mothers and fathers who find themselves in a position in which they have to deal with the Child Welfare System. Unfortunately, their children are at risk of being removed from their homes. In one of our regions alone, more than 3,000 children were removed and placed into substitute care last year.   By changing how these mothers and fathers behave toward their children, parents can improve their children's lives, behaviors, and attitudes, repairing cognitive, academic, and behavioral dysfunctions.   Join us, and help mothers and fathers gain the tools they need to redirect their lives and their children’s lives.
