This week (Oct 14 - 18) is National School Lunch Week (NSLW). President John F. Kennedy first established NSLW in 1962 to spotlight the importance of serving nutritious school lunches. 🍽🍎🥛 Today, the National School Lunch Program fuels nearly 30 million children every day, making sure they have the nutrients they need to thrive—both in and out of the classroom. Milk plays a crucial role in nourishing these students. Learn more about the essential role of milk in school meal programs. 🥛 #NSLW2024 #MadeWithSchoolLunch #SNA School Nutrition Association

Dairy farmers are a vital part of our New England community. Not only do they supply us with fresh, nutritious dairy products, but they also understand the importance of school meals. With a long-standing commitment to supporting these programs through grants and other resources, our local farmers play a crucial role in nourishing the next generation. Congratulations to West Shore Middle School in Milford, CT for receiving this milk cooler through the grant program to keep milk cold for their students! Milk tastes best when kept at the right temperature, ensuring kids enjoy its optimal flavor and all the essential nutrients it offers.

September is #HungerActionMonth. Expanding on existing efforts is a growing movement to promote and prioritize not just any food but nutritious food sources—including dairy—for food insecure populations. Learn more about "nutrition security" and how organizations both nationally and locally are working toward providing it.
"We believe that access to healthy food is a human right. At the end of the day, everyone deserves to eat a nutritious meal." Powerful statement from one of the people I interviewed for a story I wrote for New England Dairy that discusses the concept of nutrition security. Sadly, certain dietary-related diseases such as heart disease and diabetes disproportionately impact communities experiencing food insecurity (or inadequate access to food necessary for leading a healthy life). Nutrition experts and community workers underscore a growing movement to not just link these communities with any food, but more nourishing foods. https://lnkd.in/e4Khts5j.
