Earlier this month, Tom Palmer, Newmont’s President and CEO, Peter Toth, Newmont’s Chief Development Officer, and other members of the Newmont leadership team were in Japan and South Korea to meet with key customers, suppliers, partners and government stakeholders. The visit continued to strengthen existing partnerships while also exploring new opportunities to forge relationships that align with Newmont’s strategic ambition and core values. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Bridgestone’s headquarters in Tokyo and a tour of their Kitakyushu plant where Giant Off The Road tires are manufactured. As Newmont’s key supplier of tires for surface operations, Bridgestone has an important role to play in our efforts to optimize haul fleet productivity, and this meeting was a validation of our companies’ aligned vision for performance, innovation and collaboration. Newmont is expanding its use of next generation 5G wireless networks to improve safety in underground mining following trial results from its Cadia operations, one of the largest underground gold and copper mines in the world. Before the trial, Cadia was limited to upload speeds of 20-30 megabits per second (Mbps) using wi-fi to operate autonomous equipment such as ore loaders and remote-controlled mining machines, which was unreliable and unpredictable when under load. Using Ericsson Private 5G for the trial, Newmont achieved upload speeds between 90Mbps to 500Mbps, improving safety and increasing the number of machines that could be operated. Newmont will now use 5G to roll out more autonomous fleet like drill rigs, graders and auto haul trucks as part of future mining operations. Following support for the Cadia 5G trial from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), Newmont has now applied to ACMA for Area Wide Licences to extend and embed Newmont’s use of 5G technology across its Australian operations. We’re proud to use the latest technology to make our people safer and our mines more productive. You can read the full media release here: https://lnkd.in/gY3hh-Hz

“As a single father of three children, I get to go home at night and make supper for my kids. I’m able to live how I want – not how I have to.” – Carl Mathew, Mine Control Supervisor at Newmont’s Porcupine operation in Canada While some Newmont employees prefer the fly-in and fly-out lifestyle at our remote mining camps, others prefer working at our residential mines, like our Porcupine operation in Timmins, Canada. However you find balance, Newmont recognizes that family, cultural and other personal responsibilities are just as important as your professional obligations – and we’re thinking hard about supporting employees through every stage of life. This past weekend, we officially said “au revoir” to the 2024 Summer Olympics, but this doesn’t mean we need to stop cheering for gold. This metal is more than a medal – it plays a vital role in many aspects of our modern world. From advancing scientific discoveries to enhancing our daily lives, gold is a champion far beyond the podium. Discover three ways gold is earning top scores across industries ⬇️ 🩺 Healthcare: Gold nanotechnology is improving early detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, including cancer. 💻 Technology: #DYK Gold has been used in telecommunications equipment since the 1930s. Thanks to its high conductivity and resistance to corrosion, it’s a preferred material in a wide range of technology, from fuses and switches to microchips in computers. 👩🚀 Space exploration: Gold’s reliability makes it a critical mineral for the extreme conditions of space missions. Gold-coated visors protect astronauts from dangerous rays, while gold plating protects spacecraft surfaces, modules and space stations against solar radiation. 🏅 Thank you to the Minerals Council of Australia for highlighting these gold uses and more in the recent publication, Golden: The Rise of Industrial Gold. #GoldMining #Gold #Newmont

Several Newmont employees from our operations in British Columbia – Brucejack and Red Chris – recently participated in the Tour de Telegraph in Tahltan Territory 🚲 An annual cycling fundraiser in support of the Dease Lake Recreation Centre, this event challenges riders to complete a 112-kilometer journey on unpaved Highway 51 – the only route connecting the Tahltan communities of Telegraph Creek and Dease Lake. Each year, this Tahltan-led event raises tens of thousands of dollars to upgrade important community infrastructure that brings people together year-round and serves as a great example of how industry and First Nations can partner to create value for communities. Thank you to all involved in making this year's event a success – we were proud to ride alongside Tahltan community members, industry peers in the region and Newmont suppliers.
