Last weekend's annual "Trick or Treat at The Breakers" was another smashing and spooky success. Thanks to all the families who turned out for this sold-out event as well as our Museum Experience, Museum Affairs and Special Events teams who work day in and day out to make the Newport Mansions such a memorable experience for our visitors! (Melanie Garcia and her Museum Experience team are REALLY committed, as seen in the photo!) #Halloween #museum #housemuseum #NewportMansions

This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Great Gatsby, the 1974 film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel of the same name. Of all the locations featured in the movie, perhaps none is more recognizable than our very own Rosecliff Mansion. For fans of classic movie theater experiences, our friends at the historic Jane Pickens Theatre will celebrate this anniversary with a special screening of the film on Saturday, November 9th in newly restored 4K DCP quality ... 4 times the resolution of the industry standard 2K! The Preservation Society of Newport County reposted this
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step ... or so goes an old Chinese proverb. The Preservation Society of Newport County took another one of those steps recently with its first-ever Spanish-language collateral, a version of our widely-distributed rack card. Along with our audio tours, offered in over a dozen languages for some properties, we will continue to broaden reach and appeal to an ever-changing visitorship. Many thanks to Pinpoint Language Translation Services - IINE and Rebekah Gomez for the help! #DEAI #accessibility #multilingual #community

Each year, Preserve Rhode Island celebrates the remarkable achievements of individuals and organizations for their efforts in utilizing historic preservation to strengthen our communities, improve quality of life, and address social challenges. This year's awardees were celebrated last Sunday at Rosecliff by a sold out audience of historians, preservationists, and community developers. The PSNC was honored to receive the Rhody Awards Preservation Project Award for our year-long restoration of Rosecliff. The $7.4mm project was one of the most extensive and complicated projects in our 78-year history and involved thirteen Rhode Island-based contractors & artisans. Our gratitude and respect for Preserve RI's Executive Director, Valerie Talmage, cannot be expressed adequately in words. Her contribution to the State's historic preservation and rehabilitation efforts will have a lasting impact for generations. We raise a glass in her honor! For more information about all of this year's incredible Rhody Award winners, including detailed videos about each project, please visit -> https://lnkd.in/dGg8qmT #historicpreservation #preservation #history #RhodeIsland #heritagetourism

Our Fall lecture series continues this month with "Spiritualism in the Gilded Age" with Kathryn Sheehan, Executive Director of the Hart Cluett Museum in Troy, New York. When: October 10 at 6pm Where: Rosecliff Mansion and via Zoom Spiritualism was a religious movement claiming that spirits of the dead are able and willing to communicate with the living. The spiritualist movement began in the 19th century and continued through the early 20th century. Prominent individuals, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, supported spiritualism. Along with the spiritualist movement there was a growing religious movement in New York State that spread to New England and included the use of spiritualists and mesmerists in the treatment of physical and mental disorders. This period gave rise to a fascination with mediums and séances and the lasting impact can be seen in today’s haunted houses and Ouija boards. Merci, Antoine. Belles photographies!
© Antoine Bonin
