Feeling truly honoured to have been part of an incredible event hosted by Newsweek at its headquarters, One World Trade Center, during Climate Week 2024! At "Pillars of The Green Transition," I had the opportunity to connect with incredible leaders from the energy, transportation, and industry sectors as we explored key actions to accelerate progress toward #NetZero and advance the green transition. A special thank you to our Diamond Sponsor, Cytiva, Gold Sponsor, Bayer, and Silver Sponsors, Tetra Pak and Davines Group | Certified B Corp, whose support was essential to making this event possible. And, of course, a thank you to our panellists— Emmanuel Abate, Max Dougherty, Davide Bollati, Gilles Tisserand, Scott Raubenstine, and Dr. Etosha Cave— for giving us their leading insights into how we can turn ambition into action. I had a chance to catch parts of a Newsweek panel earlier this week. Thanks to Max Dougherty for representing Bayer, but more importantly, for bringing in the voice of our customer. Max was talking with a farmer about his experience with regenerative practices. Three years ago, western Minnesota received about half their average rainfall amount. While some of his neighbors saw production drop 30%, this farmer reported close to their highest yields ever. He said it was because of the practices they started adopting a few years before the drought. By eliminating tillage and planting cover crops, they were leaving the soil undisturbed and covered in the winter months. This led to more organic matter in the soil and significantly increased its water holding capacity. They were able to trap what little water they received, making the farm more resilient in a very tough year. I expect this farmer is excited about the opportunities around "carbon farming" and other sustainability markets, and I hope they're benefiting from totally new farm revenue because of programs tapping into those new markets. But it sounds like this customer might see an even greater benefit to adopting regenerative practices - more resilient soil that traps water and helps remove the risk that comes with too little rain. Congrats and thanks to Max, Leonardo Bastos and the whole team, including the team at Perdue AgriBusiness, for helping farmers make the transition to these practices, and doing it in ways that work for them and their operations. And for colleagues who participated in important conversations this week in New York, safe travels home. #TeamBayer #RegenerativeAgriculture #GreenTransition #ClimateWeekNYC

At Newsweek, we believe that real progress happens when innovation and responsibility come together. During #ClimateWeekNYC 2024, we had the honor of hosting two events that explored this balance in the fight against climate change. Our first event, “Pillars of The Green Transition,” brought together leaders across energy, transportation, and industry to discuss the urgent steps needed to accelerate progress toward #NetZero. It was inspiring to witness the collective determination to turn ambition into action, as we explored how critical sectors can meet the 1.5°C targets of the Paris Agreement. A special thanks to our Diamond Sponsor, Cytiva, Gold Sponsor, Bayer, and Silver Sponsors, Tetra Pak and Davines Group | Certified B Corp, whose support was essential to making this event possible. A heartfelt thank you also to our panelists—Emmanuel Abate, Max Dougherty, Davide Bollati, Gilles Tisserand, Scott Raubenstine, and Dr. Etosha Cave—for sharing their insights into how these industries can drive the green transition forward. Later that evening, we dove into the complex relationship between #technology and #sustainability with our panel discussion, “AI: Climate Hero or Climate Villain?” Sponsored by Kia America, this conversation with experts from Microsoft, Amazon, and Salesforce highlighted AI’s potential to revolutionize climate solutions while also confronting the challenges of its energy consumption. A sincere thank you to Bobby Hollis, Amen Ra Mashariki, Suzanne DiBianca, Heather Quinley, and Priya Donti for a thought-provoking discussion on how #AI and sustainability can coexist in shaping a better future. The impact, precision, and depth of these conversations were a result of the expert moderation by Jeff Young, Newsweek’s Environment and Sustainability Editor. Ultimately, both events revealed a central truth: the path to a sustainable future requires both innovation and accountability. As we navigate this crucial moment in history, I’m inspired by the leaders, advocates, and innovators who are committed to shaping a greener, more equitable world. The future of our planet depends on the choices we make today—let's ensure they count. Pillars of the Green Transition Livestream: https://lnkd.in/d9JEcEjr AI: Climate Hero or Villain?
