Newsweek was delighted to host AI: Climate Hero or Climate Villain? — A Newsweek Horizons Event at our headquarters in One World Trade Center, New York.   Our panel of leading experts in AI research, technology and the electric industry explored how we can reap the climate benefits of AI without having its power demands derail the clean energy transition.   We would like to thank Kia Worldwide for making this important discussion happen.   And, of course, a special thank you to our speakers: Bobby Hollis, Microsoft, Vice President of Energy Amen Ra Mashariki, Bezos Earth Fund, Director of AI and Data Strategies Suzanne DiBianca, Salesforce, Executive Vice President & Chief Impact Officer Heather Quinley, Duke Energy, Managing Director, ESG & Sustainability Priya Donti, MIT, Assistant Professor Photos: Marleen Moise #NWHorizons

Recruitment Manager @ Newsweek | Global Talent Acquisition Expert | Recruitment Strategy

Last week, I had the opportunity to work from our NYC Headquarters for a few days! The views at One World Trade Center never get old. I was thrilled to meet up with most of my HR team and play a small part in helping to organize two Climate Week NYC events that Newsweek hosted. I also got to bring my son up with me, his second visit to NYC and our office! 🙂

Senior VP @ Newsweek | Strategic leader using data to illuminate paths forward | Audience development & content strategy expert

Was such a cool experience listening to perspectives on the future from some of the nation's leading Chief Data Officers and the growing cadre of Chief AI Officers. Leaders from Fortune 500 companies, government, defense and media joined visionary startup brains on panels and group discussions slicing the future of A.I. into bite-sized chunks. The heady conversations made my brain expand faster than my waistline during quarantine. Thanks to David Chivers and David Mathison for bringing together a collection of bright visionaries! (As much as AI could have augmented David's selfie skills below, it's hard to beat authenticity!)

Transforming Journalism, Media, and Storytelling in the Age of AI: 3 Key Takeaways for Leaders I am grateful to be at the Chief Data and Analytics Officer and Chief AI Officer Summits in Washington D.C. speaking and moderating. Thank you, Patty Michalski, Josh Awtry and Alexandria Redmon for the inspiring and insightful conversation. And special thanks to David Mathison for curating an important gathering of leaders across government, academia, technology and several other sectors.   The takeaways shared are not only relevant to media professionals but offer valuable lessons for leaders across all industries. The media industry’s early disruption and adoption of AI provides a roadmap for other sectors. Here are 3 things of many that stood out:   1.  AI as an Enhancement, Not a Replacement In media, AI is assisting journalists with data analysis and streamlining workflows, allowing them to focus on in-depth reporting and storytelling. Similarly, in other industries, AI can handle routine tasks, freeing up teams to concentrate on strategic initiatives. 2. Maintaining Integrity with AI Integration Establishing clear guidelines ensures that AI is applied responsibly, maintaining trust with customers and stakeholders. Transparency about AI’s role in processes helps build credibility and confidence. This applies to many industries. For the news business, it means transparency to audience members on what role AI is playing in the news gathering process. 3. Promoting AI and Media Literacy Investing in AI literacy for both employees and customers empowers them to navigate the evolving landscape effectively. Understanding AI’s capabilities and limitations is essential for making informed decisions.   Final Thoughts As CEOs, leaders and board members, it’s imperative to lead the way in responsible AI adoption. By aligning AI initiatives with our core values and ethical standards, we can harness its potential to benefit not just our organizations but our broader society. #artificialintelligence #AI #media #news #innovation #strategy #journalism
