After our media tour last week, Natalie Clydesdale produced a story about NewView and the work we do to create and provide jobs for Oklahomans with low or no vision. We once again want to extend our gratitude to KFOR Oklahoma's News 4 for coming out, and DevMar Strategies and Schnake Turnbo Frank for helping arrange! https://hubs.la/Q02V-D0v0

Our tours have been poppin' lately! Thanks to everyone who has been helping spread the word and invite OKC community members to join us. With over 140,000 Oklahomans between the ages of 18-64 reporting that they are blind or have serious difficulty seeing, the more people we can share the resources we offer with, the less likely a working-age adult who is blind is to fall into unemployment. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to host some of Oklahoma's finest lawyers for a tour recently. So grateful for DevMar Strategies and Schnake Turnbo Frank for their support in organizing this media tour! What a great way to celebrate #NDEAM and #ManufacturingMonth in Oklahoma!
We had a blast helping NewView Oklahoma host a media event to spread the word about National Disabilities Employment Awareness month #NDEAM. A shout out to our friends at Schnake Turnbo Frank for helping to extend invites, and a big thank you to KFOR-TV for helping to tell these important stories. Did you know that there is a huge need in Oklahoma for meaningful employment for individuals with vision loss? In fact, only 41.5% of working-age Oklahomans who are blind or have low vision are employed, and of those employed, 62.6% earn less than $35,000 a year! If your organization is willing to do the work to become a more disability inclusive employer, NewView Oklahoma could be an incredible resource for you!

We were so excited to host Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) on Monday to tour our manufacturing plant and Classen rehab services to learn about all the job opportunities offered by NewView - not just these two locations but federal service contract jobs such as IRS mailrooms, Tinker AFB, Hill AFB, Travis AFB, and many Navy mail rooms on the east coast. NewView and DRS pursue very similar missions, and we are grateful to collaborate with them.

All of us at NewView are mourning the loss of Frank Merrick along with the rest of the Oklahoma City community. Frank Merrick's entire life was spent pouring into others, and his heart for the community was unmatched. We are grateful for every opportunity we have had to collaborate with him. Sending his family and all those impacted by his death all of the love in the world during this time of loss.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Chairman of the Board, Frank Merrick. Frank’s vision and leadership have been instrumental to our organization. A devoted supporter of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and so many nonprofits across the state, Frank’s impact will live on in the good he has done for his communities. As president of Foundation Management Frank showed a passion for connecting individuals and philanthropic entities, creating a network that helped make giving streamlined and enjoyable. Our hearts go out to his family, and to his work family during this incredibly difficult time. Frank will be truly missed.

October 15th is White Cane Awareness Day! The white cane is a mobility aid used by an individual who is legally blind to help them safely navigate their environments. Learning to use a cane is an ongoing process and requires hours of orientation & mobility training. A cane is also a helpful way to communicate to someone who is sighted that a cane user is blind or has low vision. #WhiteCaneAwareness #WhiteCane #MobilityCane #MobiliyAid

We're doing big things here in Oklahoma! Huge thanks to National Industries for the Blind's CEO, Soraya Correa, for making the trip out to see us. What a great start to #NDEAM, indeed!
Last Friday, NIB President and CEO Soraya Correa traveled to Oklahoma City to visit NIB associated nonprofit agency NewView Oklahoma (NVO). She had the opportunity to tour NVO's service contracts at Tinker Air Force Base, the IRS Mailroom, and the NVO manufacturing facility to see firsthand how the organization is helping Oklahomans who are blind, low vision, or visually impaired gain meaningful employment. Thank you to NVO for providing an impactful kickoff to National Disability Employment Awareness Month! #NationalIndustriesfortheBlind #NVO #DisabilityEmployment #InclusionMatters #NewViewOklahoma
