The battery technology widely leveraged by Chinese manufacturers today traces its origins back to innovations made in the USA in the '90's. The US "gave up" it's market leading position to Asia when the principal drivers for battery technology were cost and size/weight, Chinese made iPhones/iPads drove the economies of scale that made China the world's battery source. With the explosive growth of battery storage needs in both EV's & Stationary Storage, battery manufacturing is moving back to the USA - sourcing and processing raw materials to feed those factories need to be US sourced as well. In addition there are multiple "Green" and "Greener" technologies that are critical to the Generation, Storage and Power Transfer industries... NexGen Materials will be a leader in helping find, process and deliver those resources.

Its been interesting to gauge the relative regional support for tariffs targeting Chinese EV’s. US car manufacturers support them, those based in the EU… not so much. This infographic shows WHY… when you look at the relative marketshare of US cars / US Buyers… vs. Chinese buyers of US cars, Ford & GM aren’t making much of a dent in the Chinese market. Contrast with how EU manufacturers are doing in China … they are selling as many (or more) cars in China as they are at home. …note that China increased tariffs on US cars to 25% in 2018 https://lnkd.in/gaEqgbtb

Good news for Ford/GM, but not Anovion or Novonix...
The IRS has finalized the EV Tax credit rules. While the Biden administration is pushing hard to accelerate EV adoption in the USA, it seems they are doing very little to help US-based companies produce critical materials. Permitting issues are holding up US-produced lithium, and almost no graphite is produced here. Australian and Canadian companies have been big beneficiaries of Department of Energy loans and grants. Automotive manufacturers are cheering these new regulations as they can use Chinese materials, but the question remains, has the Biden administration done this right ??
