The National Forum for Black Public Administrators, along with our NFBPA Greater Houston Chapter and the nation, is deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman and former Mayor of Houston, Texas, Sylvester Turner. Throughout his distinguished career, he exemplified bipartisan leadership and was dedicated to serving his constituents, tirelessly working to enhance the lives of all Houstonians. Sylvester Turner actively supported the Houston Chapter by participating in our Texas Leadership Awards Dinner, where he received the “2018 National Leadership Award.” He also served as a panelist at the 2022 Winter Emerge Conference in Houston, sharing the stage with mayors from across the country. His contributions and insights during the conference highlighted his steadfast commitment to public service and community leadership. His presence not only inspired attendees but also emphasized the importance of collaboration among leaders in tackling the challenges our communities face. Congressman Turner leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service and dedication that will continue to inspire future generations. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family during this challenging time.
