Fluted/ribbed surfaces Trend 5 of 6 from Anja Seng's time on the floor at NAHB International Builders' Show / KBIS. Per Anja: 💬 Texture took center stage at KBIS, with fluted and ribbed details making a strong statement across various design elements. Scalloped and grooved textures were prominent on kitchen islands, vanities, and glass surfaces, adding dimension and depth to contemporary interiors. This design trend aligns with the industry’s broader movement toward tactile, visually engaging materials. Weather-resilient solutions Trend 4 of 6 from Anja Seng's time on the floor at NAHB International Builders' Show / KBIS. Per Anja: 💬 With natural disasters intensifying concerns, it was no surprise that manufacturers at IBS prioritized products designed to withstand extreme weather events. Louisiana-Pacific Corporation centered much of its display around the LP® FlameBlock® Fire-Rated Sheathing. The exhibitor placed a portion directly over a Bunsen burner to demonstrate its ability to slow the spread of flames. Westlake showcased its Class A Fire-rated, non-combustible stone veneer and roofing, boasting zero flame spread and zero smoke development. Panoramic Doors™ introduced its Coastal Storm Door, featuring impact-resistant glass and Florida Building Code certification, ensuring top-tier protection in High-Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ). 🏡 “Wellness was important to 93% of homeowners—but only 43% considered it when choosing their current home.” – Mikaela Arroyo, recently quoted in Forbes. That number has now jumped to 73%. The pandemic reshaped how we think about our homes—air quality, outdoor spaces, and wellness-driven design are bigger priorities than ever. Are you seeing this shift in action? Let’s discuss. 👇 Jamie Gold, CKD CAPS MCCWC #jbrec

Leveled-up engineered materials Trend 3 of 6 from Anja Seng's time on the floor at NAHB International Builders' Show / KBIS. Per Anja: 💬 Natural material alternatives showed up at IBS in a big way this year. James Hardie’s new TimberHue™ Collection debuted with a palette of 8 2-tone siding hues that evoke the natural beauty of stained wood. The winter display illustrated the combination of aesthetics and durability by showcasing new Weathered Oak-hued fiber cement siding engineered to withstand the harshest weather conditions, including snow, hail, and freezing temperatures. Evolve Stone was another memorable exhibitor. This booth demonstrated its resin composite stone veneer, which looks like real stone and is a breeze to install. Attendees observed several pieces installed with a nail gun in seconds, up to “10 times faster when compared to the competition.” To see the other 5 trends, check out Anja's recap article: https://lnkd.in/g92CRsKa #nhti #jbrec

Accessibility enhancements Trend 2 of 6 from Anja Seng's time on the floor at NAHB International Builders' Show / KBIS. Per Anja: 💬 Suppliers placed greater emphasis on accessible and universal design principles this year. With a colorful accessory dwelling unit (ADU) popup, GE displayed the joys of comfortably aging in place. The company tailored the ADU for aging adults with features like raised appliances, a shallow sink to prevent hunching over, and wheelchair-accessible space beneath the sink. Fotile showcased its 3-in-1 sink, dishwasher, and produce washer. The space-efficient countertop appliance would be ideal for an in-law suite or casita, especially for mature residents who don’t want to crouch down to get to their dishwasher. At the Masonite® booth, Endura’s ADAptive sill system targeted an underserved pain point: water leaks in ADA-compliant door thresholds. The system achieves up to DP-35 water performance with a full-length caulking strip and sealing beak that prevents all-too-common leaks between door sills and jambs. AI-Powered Innovation Trend 1 of 6 from Anja Seng's time on the floor at NAHB International Builders' Show / KBIS. Per Anja: 💬 Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the home design industry, and its presence was especially strong at IBS. One attention-grabber was Prophetic, a platform that helps identify development opportunities in seconds. The software layers city and zoning maps with property and diligence data like land owners, parcel boundaries, flood plains, and school ratings. Prophetic can even generate site plans based on user-defined parameters, taking usability to the next level. Another new exhibitor, D.TO, bridges the gap between designers and manufacturers. The plugin integrates building information modeling (BIM) to scan drawings and recommend products to integrate into BIM models. The results streamline product searching and specification for architects. On the consumer side, LG Electronics’ ThinQ platform, including FURON, demonstrated its AI-driven personalization. This AI agent adapts home settings based on user behaviors, such as adjusting room temperature in response to nighttime coughing or adjusting your dryer cycle if your clothes have too much static. Happy virtual council day to our New Home Trends Institute councils 🥳 I am never more impressed with the passion, creativity, and brilliance of our industry than after a council meeting with our members. Today the Consumer Trends council spent 4 hours covering: ▪️ Industry State of the Union ▪️ Homebuying Insights by Decade Born ▪️ The Agent/Broker Connection in 2025 ▪️ Consumer Sentiment: How Consumers Ascribe Value in an Uncertain Housing Market ▪️ 2025 Shifting Demographics A few of my favorite takeaways: 1️⃣ Communities are dedicating more space to USEFUL amenities that make life more convenient (think groceries, not lagoons) 2️⃣ Builders must up their game on broker events. Wine and cheese are not cutting it anymore. 3️⃣ FUN is an underrated sales tool when combatting consumer pessimism. 4️⃣ The homebuilding industry has a lot of true crime fans!
