The Century kindergarten teachers are taking advantage of the season and exploring all things fall. After learning about apples, they moved on to pumpkins. They read fun stories about them, learned how they grow, and took a trip to a pumpkin patch. To top off the lesson, the classes went outside and watched items like pumpkins get catapulted as they learned about force and motion.

The Summit 5th grade science team meets regularly to discuss ways to help students learn a particular topic better. Recently, they gathered and worked on a lab assignment together where they were given few instructions up front but just told the basics of what to do. The teachers then took the same lesson back to their classroom and presented it to their students the same way. The goal was for the kids to think independently about solving a problem instead of having every piece of information given to them right away.

🍎 The Board of Education and district administrators visited Nixa High School on Tuesday, October 8. ✏️ 🦅 During their visit, they ordered treats from the Birdhouse, the school's student-run coffee shop. ☕️ They learned about the Advanced Placement Ambassador's program and the fine arts classes. 🎭 They saw the new journalism studio, and the family and consumer sciences class prepared pizza for them to sample. 🍕

Recess is an important time for kids to go outside and relax, whether they like to talk with friends or just run around and be silly. The kids at Espy recently were treated to new playground equipment. Sliding, climbing, and crawling are just a couple of the things they can do on it, and they are absolutely loving every second of it!

Before Covid, JTSD held a farmer's market where families could come in and buy products to benefit their school. They are bringing it back this year and tying it into the curriculum. Second graders have been learning about the different states of matter. They are using that lesson to transform crayons from their original shape to a new one while maintaining their properties.
