Ensures safe, reliable, affordable public utility services. Supports Gov. Murphy's goal of 100% clean energy by 2035.
About us
The Board of Public Utilities (“Board”) is the state agency with authority to oversee the regulated utilities, which in turn provide critical services such as natural gas, electricity, water, telecommunications and cable television. The law requires the Board to ensure safe, adequate, and proper utility services at reasonable rates for customers in New Jersey. The Board addresses issues of consumer protection, energy reform, deregulation of energy and telecommunications services and the restructuring of utility rates to encourage energy conservation and competitive pricing in the industry. The Board also has responsibility for monitoring utility service and responding to consumer complaints. The Board is considered a quasi-judicial body, meaning that it functions similar to a court or judge. Anyone may file a petition (or a request for action) asking the Board to consider a matter within its jurisdiction. Most often petitions are filed by the utilities, ratepayers or interested parties, but there are times when the Board will initiate a matter on its own.

Last week, advocates and state officials, including New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Christine Guhl-Sadovy and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette, gathered at the Thomas Edison Service Area to celebrate the progress in electrifying our transportation sector. The recent NJBPU board order will expand charging infrastructure for medium and heavy-duty vehicles, paving the way for electric delivery vans, trucks, and buses. With nearly $250 million in federal funds and state investments, New Jersey is positioned to reduce air pollution and protect public health, especially in communities disproportionately affected by diesel emissions. Together, we’re accelerating towards a sustainable and healthier future for all New Jerseyans! Read More: https://bit.ly/4fe2zsH #electricvehicles #cleantransportation

We’re excited to share that NJBPU had the honor of joining the New York Jets Hometown Huddle at Dover Elementary School for the grand opening of a brand-new playground! Thanks to the collaboration between the New York Jets Foundation, United Way of Northern New Jersey, Dunkin', and NJBPU, this project has created a safe and vibrant space for students to play and explore. The New York Jets Rookie Class was on hand to help celebrate, running a course on the playground with the kids, and our NJ Clean Energy logo was proudly featured during the check presentation. A special shout-out to the New York Jets Women’s Organization for volunteering to make this day a success and to all the incredible sponsorship partners who helped bring this vision to life for Dover Elementary School. Check out some of our highlights from the day!
