Thankful for the opportunity to present with Tufts Medical Center at ICCAI 2024. With significant adverse outcomes of interventions like TAVR (10% to 20% mortality at 1 year), enhanced long term risk stratification might be useful, especially in managing elderly & frail populations, optimizing outcomes and reducing waste. The conference is hosted by the Society for Complex Acute Illness. The word “complex” here is key to our narrative, as acute illness involves multiorgan dysregulation that can be seen in loss of signal complexity at multiple time scales associated with the breakdown of nonlinear regulatory feedback loops. Our results show that selected beat scales may optimize measurement of the change in information content embedded in BP waveforms (via entropy metrics) showing different cardiac contractile function and vascular systemic elastance, which variables may directly affect outcomes.
