NLCP exists to create a better future by developing transformational leaders.

About us

North Lawndale College Prep (NLCP) is a coed, public charter high school with two campuses that serve ~ 700 students in grades 9-12. NLCP exists to create a better future by developing and empowering transformational leaders. We do this by providing a comprehensive high school education and the supports necessary to graduate from college. As an organization, we value passion, commitment and relationships. Our success is distinguished by three critical elements: An academic model that builds both the academic and the social and emotional skills our students will need for their future success; Caring and engaged professionals; And a competitive and attractive brand. NLCP is on the brink of twenty years of service to the North Lawndale Community.

  • We’re proud to highlight Tazerick Covington (#22), a freshman running back, and his older brother, Tavarius Covington (#3), a senior wide receiver, on NLCP’s varsity football team. 🏈 Their bond is more than just on the field. According to their coach, Reggie Collins, the Covington brothers encourage and push each other both athletically and academically, keeping each other accountable every step of the way. Tavarius, a Phoenix Pact Scholar, maintains a 3.0+ GPA and qualifies to attend college with little to no out-of-pocket costs. He’s motivated his younger brother to work just as hard academically to follow in his footsteps as a future Phoenix Pact Scholar. 📰 Read the full coverage of these exceptional brothers: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g7beHQPp #NLCPFootball #PhoenixPact #SiblingGoals #Leadership #PhoenixPride

  • At NLCP, we are committed to fostering strong connections with our families. This past week, we hosted a special parent event where families had the opportunity to come together, paint, and engage in meaningful conversations with our Chief of Staff, Marie Sainvilus-Miles. 🎨💬 It was an inspiring day filled with creativity and valuable feedback, as parents shared their thoughts and experiences at NLCP. We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and look forward to continuing our work together to support our students and the broader community. 💙💛 #ParentEngagement #CommunityBuilding #NLCPFamily #LeadershipInEducation

  • NLCP Parent Testimonial – Kandice McGee “As a proud parent of four children who attended North Lawndale College Prep (NLCP), I’m sharing how crucial this charter school is to the children of North Lawndale and why it's important to elevate the voices of charter school parents. I chose NLCP because of its commitment to expanding learning opportunities. From Peace Warriors to a range of extracurricular activities, NLCP focuses on building both peaceful communities and a college-going culture. My children have benefited greatly from this holistic approach – all four became Peace Warriors, and one of my sons is now a wide receiver on the football team. NLCP’s partnership with Phoenix Pact has been transformative for my family. The Pact provides scholarships to close the financial aid gap, helping my children attend and stay in college. Today, one of my daughters teaches Algebra and financial literacy, and another is a psychologist – achievements that would not have been possible without NLCP. I’ve experienced firsthand the unwavering dedication of NLCP’s teachers and staff, who have supported my children in becoming National Honor Society members and thriving students. They take care of their students, not just when things are tough but also when they’re succeeding. I am incredibly proud of NLCP and the impact they are having in our neighborhood. This school is making a meaningful difference, and I believe they’re just getting started. Thank you for listening to the voices of charter school parents and supporting the important work of NLCP.” #NLCPFamily #CharterSchoolVoices #NorthLawndale #PhoenixPact #PeaceWarriors #CommunityImpact #ProudParent #EducationMatters

  • For over 25 years, NLCP has been a beacon of learning and support for our scholars, and as we embark on another academic year, I’m excited to continue this legacy. In August we launched our Together We Rise Campaign, a strategic planning process to help shape NLCP’s vision and priorities for the next 25 years. This initiative is centered on hearing from all members of our community – from students and parents to staff and stakeholders. Through listening sessions, surveys, Coffee Chats with the CEO, and town hall meetings, you’ll have many chances to share your perspective. This summer, we’ve already heard from our students, teachers, and families about their love for NLCP’s strong college-going culture and the desire to build on that legacy. We’re eager to continue listening and learning from our community to ensure that NLCP remains a pillar of excellence in the North Lawndale community. Stay tuned for updates on how you can participate, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Let’s rise together as one NLCP family! #TogetherWeRise #StrategicPlanning #NLCPCommunity #EducationLeadership #NorthLawndale #FutureOfEducation

  • 🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Tashawnna Johnson Meet Tashawnna Johnson, a 2016 NLCP graduate and our current Alumni Coordinator. Tashawnna’s journey is a perfect example of how the right support and opportunities can shape a student’s future. During her time at NLCP, she gained exposure to college and participated in several programs that helped her realize higher education was her path forward. Her teachers, who believed in her from freshman year, pushed her to excel and made sure she had the resources to succeed. Tashawnna attended Illinois State University, graduating in 2020, and thanks to the Phoenix Pact, she was able to attend college with no out-of-pocket costs. The Pact removed the financial barriers that many students face, allowing her to focus on her studies and graduate worry-free. Today, Tashawnna is back at NLCP as the Alumni Coordinator, helping our students and fellow alumni navigate their post-graduation journeys. We’re proud of her dedication and the positive impact she’s making in our community! #AlumniSpotlight #EducationMatters #PhoenixPact #NLCPCommunity #IllinoisStateUniversity #AlumniLeadership #EmpoweringStudents
