I have lived in Cape Town for most of my life, but I still hold fond memories of my home city of Durban. My fiancée and my 3-year-old daughter are my purpose, and they carry my heart. I like to tap into my anxiety and use it as an ally. A superpower, if you will. Pasta and an ice-cold Coke are always a winner. Shout-out to Saadman for finding Cousins Trattoria. ✨ What do you do at NMI? I partner with a group of game-changing Customer Support reps who, along with the great teams we have in the U.S. and the U.K., help lead the front line, supporting our partners and customers. There is a ton of potential in Cape Town, and along with Wade Corin, Chloe Reid and other awesome champions, we're working towards growing our Cape Town presence and opportunities. ✨ What do you enjoy about working at NMI? I have enjoyed forming a new team of professionals to partner with, who I will be forever grateful to for giving me a new lease of energy in my career. There is a wealth of knowledge and expertise that we can all tap into, and we are encouraged to contribute wherever we can, even if it is not in the realm of our core responsibility. ✨ What hobbies or activities do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy going to the cinema and also enjoy watching football. North London forever! I rewatch my favorite movies. Nolan, Fincher, Zemeckis, Spielberg, Scorsese, Cameron Crowe & Tony Scott movies are typically at the top of the director list. Childhood nostalgia has hit me hard, and I find myself lately looking for the best deals on Hot Wheels, MOTU and TMNT figurines. ✨ Tell us a little-known fact about yourself. My first full-time sales job was selling gas and electric contracts, door-to-door, in Scotland. And as a 19-year-old foreigner, knocking on strangers' doors, unannounced, sometimes being chased by dogs and sometimes by potential customers, definitely helped shape my fortitude. I also realized I was probably better suited for a desk job. ✨ What are you looking forward to most this year? After nearly 15 years working in various sales roles in Digital Trust, I want to continue to make the most of NMI’s opportunities and next-level mission growth. I’m also looking forward to making a difference. I don’t take the privilege of leadership lightly. Having been mentored by great leaders in the past, RG, RAH, AR and others, it is important to me that I pay it back and help NMIers win.     In a bid to catch up with Generative AI advancements at Google, Meta and Microsoft, Apple has announced that it is teaming up with OpenAI to launch Apple Intelligence, a Gen AI solution set to launch later this year. According to Apple, the company's new AI tool will offer functional enhancements across devices, including schedule planning, text generation, image creation and improvements to Siri's functionality and natural language processing. As Apple looks for new ways to incorporate AI into its products, the payments industry could also be affected — especially if Apple Intelligence becomes a core feature of Apple Wallet. “There’s a huge opportunity for Apple to change consumer spending behavior and take its mobile wallet to the next level by integrating it into its core AI strategy,” NMI Director of Product Management Darryl Cumming said in a recent PYMNTS interview.     "I think the most important thing that [new payments professionals] have to have is mentorship and to find the right products and solutions for their client base. Aside from that, it's important to find very established companies for those solutions," Bart Kohler, ETA CPP, ETA CPP and Chief Sales Officer at Unity FI Solutions, said. We recently spoke with Bart Kohler about the trends he sees impacting the payments industry in 2024, including surcharging regulations, fraud prevention and the rise of cryptocurrency. With nearly 30 years of industry experience, Kohler also gave some advice for young professionals entering the payments space. "It's important for people to make relationships with companies that they can trust, that are highly communicative so that they can get information and insight to different products and solutions so that they can overcome those challenges and those obstacles.     In-app transactions are making it faster and easier for consumers to pay. Paying for dinner through a restaurant's app, buying artwork on Instagram and purchasing upgrades for a mobile game are all examples of embedded app payments. Integrating payment processing and merchant services directly into apps and software platforms is now so common that more than half of all businesses get their payments through a software vendor rather than a traditional provider, according to McKinsey.
