Thank you New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions for the opportunity to participate in last week's 2024 New Mexico Workforce Conference. NMDVR staff learned from other state agencies also invested in finding #MeaningfulEmployment for New Mexicans, and we were happy to share our knowledge during several presentations and panel discussions. NMDVR Director Casey Stone-Romero (far right) served on a panel with five other agency heads for the plenary session: “Journey to Achieving 2024-2027 State Plan Goals and Strategies.” NMDVR staff also presented and took part in panels about "Paving the Way to Employment for People with Disabilities," "Customer Service Delivery to Those with Disabilities," and "Inclusive Futures: Supporting Youth with Disabilities in Workforce Development."

NMDVR is proud to provide this important program for young New Mexicans with disabilities, including at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center for students in Rio Rancho Public Schools. Today is the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act becoming the law of the land. Since July 26, 1990, the ADA has led to many workplace advances we take for granted today. July marks the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law in 1990. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in many areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and many public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.
