A nonprofit organization committed to preserving and building our non-GMO food supply.
About us
The Non-GMO Project is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to building and protecting a non-GMO food supply. We do this through consumer education and outreach programs; marketing support provided to Non-GMO Project Verified brands; and training resources and merchandising materials provided to retailers. Non-GMO Project Verified remains the market leader for GMO avoidance and one of the fastest growing labels in the retail sector. We offer North America’s most trusted third-party verification for non-GMO products. The Non-GMO Project Standard is a consensus-based document crafted with the insight from dozens of industry experts, reflecting a dynamic range of perspectives. In a world of shifting technologies, the Standard remains current and collaborative through ongoing public comment periods. Because of this collaboration with engaged stakeholder groups, Non-GMO Project Verified is a meaningful and achievable way for suppliers, brands and retailers to show their commitment to providing consumers transparent choice in the marketplace.

GMO agriculture is not a system in right relationship with nature, and despite the claims of the biotech industry, it isn't a sustainable model in the long term. It's time to get back to basics. Regenerative agriculture provides us with solutions for nourishing both people and the planet. That starts with non-GMO. 🌎🦋 #climateweek #regenag #nongmo

"Farms were once a riot of biodiversity. A single field might have contained five different varieties of corn, a mix of oats and barley or whatever jumble of grains suited farmers from France to Ethiopia. These offered a hedge against hardship: plant mixes in the field shifted with the weather. More rye one year, less wheat another. But when industrial roller mills arrived in the late 1800s, the supply chain coalesced around white bread virtually overnight...This transition to monoculture helped drive a fourfold increase in U.S. wheat yields. It also created a food system vulnerable to climate shocks and reliant on enormous inputs of agrochemicals." The way we grow wheat must change if we intend to keep consuming it in the same quantity as the climate warms. The good news: We have the hardy wheat varieties and tools to make it happen. Some brands, like Non-GMO Project Verified King Arthur Baking Company, are already taking the necessary steps. More from the Washington Post ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gwBQ3etG

Whether you enjoy a plant-based diet or eat meat, there's a high likelihood that soy touches your diet. 🚫 95% of soy grown in North America is GMO 🐮 75% of that is used as animal feed or biofuel 🛒 GMO soy is most commonly consumed by humans as highly processed oils, ground meals and starches with little nutritional value From synbio to superweeds, read about all things soy on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gqE-SzaD

GMOs can easily sneak their way into plant-based options. 🌱🚫 High-risk GMO crops like corn and soy end up processed into a number of meat and dairy alternatives, and synbio is booming in the plant-based space. 🧬🐮 But never fear! We verify over 700 (🤯) plant-based/meat alternative products. We’ve got you covered, from classics like tofu and tempeh to modern-day meat analogs like chik'n strips and meatless jerky. Find them all by using the non-GMO finder our website: https://lnkd.in/gpsGghfU 🦋👩💻

Have you met our most recent Equitable Transfer Program recipients, Levelle Nutrition?! "Physical activity has many benefits: it supports heart health, keeps bones and joints strong, improves mental focus, and helps control weight and body composition. If staying active is so good for our bodies, shouldn’t the food we eat while doing sports be good for us too? Shouldn’t sports nutrition products be, in a word, healthy? Before my co-founder and I started Levelle Nutrition, we talked to more than 100 female endurance athletes. We asked them about their routines and how they fueled their bodies during exercise and activity. What we learned shocked and saddened us." Read more about Levelle's origin story and mission on their guest blog: https://lnkd.in/gekNfbXu

Cultivated meat is lab-grown meat produced in a bioreactor from cells harvested from a living animal. While it sounds made-up, it's very real. Our first question: Is cultivated meat made with GMOs? It depends. Despite over $3 billion invested in the cultivated meat industry over the past decade, technical limitations have kept cost-effective and environmentally-friendly products largely out of reach. Some companies are turning to genetic engineering (GMOs) to find workarounds. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/g2S8WA_y
