About us

From 20 to 13,000+ members, we’ve grown quite a bit in our 100 years! For over a century, NCACPA’s primary focus has been providing superior member service. With guidance from the NCACPA Board of Directors, committees, and established strategic plan, we continue to successfully serve the accounting profession and community. We’re dedicated to monitoring changes within the profession and ensuring our constituents receive necessary resources and updates. To fulfill our mission (of enhancing the accounting profession and the community it serves through advocacy, connections, education, and resources), our various committees, task forces, and advisory groups regularly interact with the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners, North Carolina General Assembly, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service, and other regulators who shape state and national accounting standards.

Updates

  • Starting in tax year 2025, North Carolina business taxpayers and tax professionals will benefit from a reduced administrative burden, thanks to advocacy efforts by NCACPA, the NC Chamber, and the Council On State Taxation. On October 30, the NC Rules Review Commission approved a rule change extending the state corporate income tax filing deadline to one month after the federal extended deadline. This additional month provides corporations, especially those with multi-state obligations, more time to thoroughly review federal returns, lowering the risk of errors and penalties. • After Hurricane Helene, NCACPA engaged FinCEN, advocating for relief on both FBAR (granted) and BOI Reporting. We're happy to announce that today FinCEN issued a notice (FIN-2024-NTC10) providing reporting relief to victims of Hurricane Helene.  Certain victims of disasters related to Hurricane Helene will receive an additional six months to submit beneficial ownership information (BOI) reports (including updates or corrections to prior reports). FinCEN is providing this relief to reporting companies that meet two requirements. Learn more about them here: https://lnkd.in/gvNdBvDU

  • NCACPA Secures Expanded Tax Relief for Hurricane Helene Victims Through continued advocacy efforts, NCACPA successfully pushed for expanded relief provisions in SB 743, the Disaster Recovery Act of 2024—Part II. This critical legislation, passed by the General Assembly on October 24, broadens interest waiver eligibility to taxpayers affected by disrupted access to their tax preparers or necessary records, even if they are outside designated disaster counties. NCACPA worked closely with state legislators, highlighting the challenges faced by tax professionals and their clients—many of whom were still without power, water, or Internet as deadlines approached. We thank Senate Majority Leader Paul Newton and the NC Retail Merchants Association for their support in securing this measure. • 📢 Your Input Needed on Alternative Licensure Pathways 📢 As part of NCACPA’s ongoing advocacy efforts to strengthen the accounting pipeline, we are seeking input from our members on a critical topic: alternative pathways to CPA licensure. Two exposure drafts are open for comment, and your voice is essential to shaping the future of the profession! 🗣️ 📝 What’s at stake? - Proposed changes to the UAA Model Act and Model Rules, which could introduce a new licensure pathway and impact CPA practice mobility across states. - The CPA Competency-Based Experience Pathway, a new framework for licensure being considered. Several states have proposed or are considering other alternative pathways to licensure and measures to provide automatic license mobility to CPAs licensed in other states. 💡 How can you help? NCACPA has developed a 5-minute survey to gather member feedback on these important issues. The results will guide our board-appointed working group as they draft the Association’s official comment letter. 📅 Deadline for survey responses: November 1. 👉 Access the exposure drafts: https://hubs.li/Q02Tw0J50 👉 Take the survey: https://hubs.li/Q02Tw4l90 Your feedback is vital to our advocacy efforts and to ensuring the accounting profession remains strong and adaptable. Let your voice be heard!
