As school begins Monday for nearly all districts in NC, let's prioritize safety on the roads! This video from a school bus camera highlights the dangers when drivers ignore rules for stopped buses. Thankfully, no students were harmed. Please allow for a little extra time in the mornings and remember to stop for school buses and drive carefully around students walking to and from school bus stops.

Today we celebrate our school bus drivers. You deliver students to and from school safely everyday. Sometimes you are the first smiling adult they will see each morning and the last before they get home. As schools and districts welcome students and families back, allow a little extra time for travel, and be sure to thank our heroes of the road. We appreciate their commitment to the safety of our students. The 2024-25 school year has started for a number of districts, or will start next week. That means the big yellow buses are back on the roads! Check out this video from our friends at the North Carolina Department of Transportation that provides several examples when traffic needs to stop for school buses - https://lnkd.in/e5HFQzJX. Remember, the penalty for passing a stopped school bus is a $500 fine and 5 points on your driver's license. This becomes a felony if you hit a child!
