History and Mission »Agency History The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission was established in 1947 by the State Legislature assigning responsibility for the state aviation functions. The Governor appoints the five members of the Aeronautics Commission to the board for terms of office of five years. The Commission staff is composed of the Director and a support staff. The office location is at the general aviation pilot terminal on the Bismarck Municipal Airport, Bismarck, ND. »Agency Mission To serve the public by providing economic and technical assistance for the aviation community while ensuring the safe and cost effective advancement of aviation in North Dakota. Continued close communications with the national scene through congressional offices, Federal Aviation Administration and other national aviation associations is necessary. Continuing to consult with the state's aviation communities and airports with assistance of and through the North Dakota Aviation Council and its affiliated members is of the utmost importance. These lines of communication will retain and strengthen the positive direction and efforts of the Aeronautics Commission into the future.
